We're lucky to have him as our GM.

    Mac interviews better than Obama

The man pretty much oozes intelligence. He weighs every thought and chooses his words carefully. Go to the Jet Forum home page and check out how he evaluated his first year. Amazing.

That's because there is no trend, he's only been here one year. You dont know if his apporach last offseason will be the status quo or if he saw a weak roster and felt he had to make a ton of moves just to field a competitive team.

How he handles the Mo/Richardson/Snacks problem is a big test, no getting around it. Regardless of the contracts he handed out last year, you probably aren't keeping all three. And with a promising Leo Williams in the fold it would be extremely unwise to pay all 3 guys big money. The real test will be getting adequate value for them vs letting them walk with no compensation.

It always sucks to let home grown talent go but it's hard and probably not a great idea to sign 3 star players within the same unit who are all looking for their first big pay day.

Hard not to like him, and a breath of fresh air for sure.

Mr. T was never a scout, never had a good eye for talent. The moves he made his first year were trash with the exception of those first two drafts.

I could see bone headed moves in his first year as well.

However, to be fair, I didn't think Mr. T was the worst GM ever. He made some costly misktskes but the guy did have a plan most of the time but he made too many mistakes.

Like trading for Tebow. Then he had that feeling like you he just ripped Denver off in that trade, only to realize later, that was the move that sealed his fate.

All I know, is the moves Mac has made earned him the top exec award this year. What more could we ask for from our rookie GM?

That's impressive to me, he earned it, and I hope he keeps making impact moves for us for the next 30 years.

To be fair, I feel like Tebow was 100% a Woody motivated move. God only knows what he was thinking, but it was probably motivated by publicity. Actually it had to be motivated by publicity because nothing else makes any logical sense.

If Macagnan wants to be half the GM Tanny was he should have used that $50M to lock Geno Smith up ;)

Fitzpatrick is the result of Maccagnan not cutting IK Enemkapali too soon. For that alone he deserves the award.

At least Falco can be a homer without making ten thousand word posts.

And who was that great FA QB that Mac passed on to sign Fitz?

    Well, I'm waiting...

Exactly. There wasn't one. He did the best he could with who was available and Fitz was a great fit since he knew Gailey's offense, gets rid of the ball quickly, which helps mitigate the weakness of our OL, reads Ds quickly and generally makes good decisions, is a great leader, and is a great mentor to Petty (and maybe Geno).

I'm not gonna kill you for your comment, because after all, I think we're ALL brain damaged to root for this nutty franchise. We probably all belong in a mental institution, but seriously, you react so negatively? Did Mac screw your dog and kick your wife or something?

I can't wait to revisit this thread at the end of next season, when the majority will be frothing at the mouth for him to be fired, I always love the knee jerk reaction by Jets fans, on the first years body of work, we finally have our guy, he's by far the best!

I will look forward to that as well. It's early, of course, but it's not hard for Mac to look better than any of his predecessors at this point. Most of the GMs in Jets history have sucked. After 4 awful seasons, he gave us an exciting season and provided some hope for the future. Is it so hard to understand Jets fans getting excited? We've had so little to get excited about in our history.

seriously. we'll be at best 7-9 and 8-8 clamoring for fitz to be fired next year. Then Mac will get shit on by fans wholl say he needs to ship up. This years warmer weather ensured Fitz actually played well into the season. Next year wont be the same.

Get us a fucking QB. Until then hes the same tool as all the other tools we've had.

Mac went into the year with Geno as the starter and Fitzpatrick as the contingency plan. There's a reason Gailey named Geno the starter early in preseason.

There wasn't much out there, and he did go get him. The Texans gave him away for a reason. But don't act like Maccagnan foresaw 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in a career year for Fitzy. The hope was to put better pieces around a third year quarterback, and while I don't think he'd ever be a prolonged NFL starter, he did show improvement from year 1 to year 2.

If the IK thing never happens, Geno gets evaluated on the first 4 games and kicked to the curb or keeps going based on how he performed and more importantly our record.

I dont think it is unfair to say something along the lines of "there is nowhere to go but up" when you take over a mess of a 4-12 team, have 55 million to add to it, and have the #6 pick overall and no hold out situations.

mac did a great job with those resources. even given the circumstances id say he should be in the running for exec of the year. but i think it is a bit overboard to say something like "it was amazing to turn a 4 win team into a 10 win team". it was basically a lock we would double that win total once we added that many high salary players.

I like what i see from mac so far, but i think what he does this offseaoson will be 10 times more telling then what he did last offseason. last year there were no real tough decisions to make. he didnt have to worry about potentially trading or moving on from top 5 players on the roster.

he also is now in a position were the team is coming of 10 wins, and has higher expections. there is room to go down.

my hope is mac isnt the kind of guy who is going to let expectations force him into making shortsighted moves, and is willing to take a step back in order to take two forward.
