Loved the press conference. These guys look poised. Not overwhelmed at all like Idzik looked. Now, as others said, let's win some games. That is how you get the fans back and ready to roll!
I loved it as well. Thought both Maccagnan and Bowles looked like they are ready to lead the organization and are ready to build a consistent winner. Obviously that's just hope and wishful thinking until we actually see what they are able to build, but just based on what we've heard about them coming in and what they showed today, I'm optimistic. And I also loved Woody's response to the Patriots deflated football scandal. First, it was a hilarious response, but at the same time, it showed that he's learned from the Revis comments and didn't say anything that could get him into trouble while still managing to get his opinion across.
What was Woody's response to the Patriots. I missed the press conference and dont see anything anywhere.
Just a point about Westoff. On the whole I like Mike, but he's got his own agenda. You have to keep that in mind. And it's not like everyone has an agenda in the general sense. He's got a specific agenda. I don't pretend to know exactly what he's thinking. But listening to him over the years, I don't think he ever says anything that he later wishes he did not say. It's all in keeping with his agenda, no matter how that manifests itself on this or that specific subject. He's been around this shit for a long time, and imo he's somehow been able to combine the appearance of being a plain speaker while also being very disciplined in what he says, and does not say.
They asked him if he had any response to the situation and he just responded by basically saying that he has no opinion, while laughing in a way that very much conveyed that he did have an opinion but he wasn't going to share it with the media, showing that he's learned his lesson about talking about other organizations after the whole Revis thing.
He could speak his mind about that and not get into trouble. I don't think he wanted to take away from why they where there.
Most owners probably could, but I'm sure Woody would have managed to put his foot in his mouth had he started actually giving his opinion. Even if actually stating his opinion was an option open to him, I liked the way he handled it.

It's not tampering to simply say you would like a player on your team. I wish we had a lot of players here: Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco, Drew Brees, for example, I wish we had all of them here. The only reason its an issue is because NE is a rival who brought the charges and Revis' history here....." ensuring tampering charges come from GB, BAL, and NO.. haha
I like westoff, it is obvious he still bitter about never being given a head coaching job. He will always mention when opportunity availed itself, he was passed over for rex Ryan.
I don't know what dome of you expected, the press confrence went exatly as I thought. Generic anwsers, I'm fine with it. I'm much more interested in what macvagnan has to say. I'm a firm believer the gm is more important than a coach.
Woody may not be that dumb. For all we know he said that about Revis on purpose. Not only to let Revis know but to make sure NE if they want him back is going to have to pay up.
i don't think Westhoff was being hyper critical. came across as cautiously optimistic, but not completely sold yet. said he wants to get on the bandwagon, already has one foot on, but just needs to see more.. regarding the coaches, said he worked with Gailey in Miami and was not impressed. also mentioned that when Gailey was with Buff, the Jets were never really worried about his offense. regarding Bowles, seems like he likes him. did point out that the whole flexibility thing was overdone. cited the Cards having difficulty stopping the run, and he didn't see the scheme change to adjust. also noted that they played one coverage and blitzed for the most part, so he didn't really see the flexibility concept in action on defense. fair enough. my take, having coaches who are scheme flexible is the correct approach, but you still need the players to make any scheme work.
i caught the second half of presser.. any mention as to whether Bowles reports directly to Woody or to Mac? also any mention as to what type of D we will run?
