So I guess this is the thread where Charlie Kelly publicly announces that he's up to slob on Mac's knob anytime, anywhere for life. Who cares that this team hasn't practiced yet and he made a bunch of moves so far that had countless alternatives so they could turn out to look anywhere from good to bad to in between? Not Charlie Kelly, that's who!
Lets all catch our breath here... I love the moves he has made in free agency, but we have no clue how anyone in this draft is going to project in the NFL including Mr. Williams. We won't know and won't be able to grade this draft class until 2018 the earliest.
Hey guy, somebody has to balance out the horde of too cool for school greasy ducktail wearing rebels shaming anybody for being optimistic less than a week after a great looking draft. If I'm going to be accused of ball washing a GM for liking the moves early on then I'm going all in, I'll rent a pressure washer and make sure Macc's soon to be legendary balls are the cleanest balls in the NFL!
I'm lukewarm on Maccagnan so far. He had something almost no other brand new GM in recent history (for any team) has had ... an obscene amount of cap space. And he blew right through it. He'd have had to be a complete imbecile to spend that amount of money and not improve the team. That said, the team is improved - no question about it. But on the other hand, I'm not thrilled with some of the signings. Skrine was a bad signing. Gilchrist was a bad signing. When we don't re-sign Wilkerson, we're going to be able to point directly to these two contracts (and the $13 million a year they represent). Revis was a bad signing, too (and will be a headache two years from now). Overall, I think he could have spent that incredible sum of available money better. I do like most of the other things he's done, however. I think Fitzpatrick was just about the best option he had available to him to upgrade at QB. I liked the Marshall move. I like that he took Leonard Williams in the draft. I liked the draft trades (including Stacy). I like that he fired our entire personnel department. I'm not thrilled with hiring Bowles (just as I wasn't thrilled with the hiring of Maccagnan, himself), but he's here so I'll give the guy a chance until he's had a chance an opportunity to sink or swim.
Even if Gilchrist turns out to be a bad signing, his contract was written so that after the 2015 season, we can get rid of him if need be. I'm not sure of the specifics on Skrine. How was Revis a bad signing? Granted, I don't think he'll play at the level he did in 2009-2010, but he's still a top 3 corner in the game, and will MASSIVELY improve our secondary from last year, which was atrocious. I hope Bowles can be a cross between Mangini and Rex. Be tough and discipline on players, but also have the carefree attitude a bit like Rex. I did want Quinn, but after hearing more things about Bowles, I'm glad we went with him. We'll have enough to resign Wilkerson, I'm not worried about that.
I hope you're right. The last regime was a disaster. Rex turned the Jets QB position, the team into a laughingstock. IMO there's nowhere to go but up.
when I read comments like many in this thread, it always amazes me how little jets fans allow themselves to be happy
Very simple ... win a championship ... then feel free to evaluate the reasonableness of my happiness (or unhappiness) with the team.
Sure, I don't see why not. I'd do it if I was ever convinced our owner and front office was singularly concerned with winning a championship as quickly as reasonably possible (and nothing else).
Though if Mac found a way to sign La'el Collins, I would be ecstatic. That would basically be like having a second first round pick for a much cheaper price tag. That would complete this offseason.
