So now that we know we have Gase is this a playoff or bust year for Macagnan? Looking at it this is year three of the Macagnan rebuild. Is year three the year the team is supposed to make the playoffs or do you wait to year 4? Lets say the Jets improve are 8-8 and don't make the playoffs. I guess some will come down to the free agents and draft picks but I think there needs to be major improvements in record and personnel or Macagnan needs to go? Am I wrong? Gase will be judged on Darnold's development. I feel if he improves Gase will be ok. If he regresses or stays the same I could see Gase gone too.
We can only hope... Major fuck up by Chris Johnson not cleaning house when the opportunity was in front of him.
The last "playoff ultimatum" resulted in signing overpriced free agents at the end of their career and a 2nd place finish..... luckily most of those contracts had an easy out (one of the things Mac did well)
Super Bowl or bust. Sure ending the playoff drought would be a positive but I've seen the Jets lose enough playoff games, AFC Championship games to get excited about simply making the playoffs. It's about making a then hopefully winning a Super Bowl.
His contract expires 2020. He probably needs to have a winning season at minimum to stay here.which brings us to the Rex idzic situation. Now, under a coach like McCarthy I wouldn’t think that would be an issue. But what are we doing about a gm if they are forced to inherit gase?
I think the Jets need a really exciting season, if not playoffs then close, a bit like the browns this year. If boring with embarassing losses and under 7 wins then Mike and Gase need cleaning out immediately and a new regime. You know, like what should have happened 2 WEEKS AGO! crying out loud Jets WHY!
Him and Gase have two years at most if things go poorly. If they have another 3 win year, I wouldnt be shocked to see both GM and coach go.
That won't happen. If we lose Gase won't last. He'll start throwing footballs at reporters or something.
That's one of my fears. The reporters will bother Gase enough that it'll hurt him and they'll all be calling for his head in November. Much like Patricia and him lambasting the reporter for not sitting up straight. I can see Gase melting down like that.
With his ego, Gase will start undermining Maccagnan ASAP and push him towards the door. Don't forget that Gase had full control over personnel in Miami, so he obviously thinks he's the best judge of talent in the room. He'd probably even have trouble co-existing with a more competent GM, so he can't be happy with a guy like Maccagnan and his spotty record controlling the draft, free agency and the roster. What's the over and under on when Gase starts pissing in Chris' ear about Maccagnan? This hire had to be all Chris/Woody.
I actually think this could be a positive of the Gase hiring. He might say personnel wasn't for me and that he was in over his head. I'll stick to coaching. Hopefully that is the case. That being said he does seem to have a huge ego and will try to get some control so I can see him and Macagnan butting heads at some point.
More wins than losses. Consistent effort week. Gase’s record in one score games and his 4th quarter differential excite me. I can see 10-6/11-5 if we have a strong free agency and draft plus natural progression.
