I cut Mac some slack for previous drafts. Until a GM has his FQB, all bets are off. Searching for a FQB consumes a GM. Thousands of hours of film researchy, college visits, pro days, combines, meetings, on and on. Now that Sam is in the fold, it's pro time. Building a team is different form searching for a FQB.
Artificial deadlines are not good negotiating tactics. I doubt if there was any hard and fast, drop dead limit on any offer. It is now water under the bridge, or will be in the next ten minutes.
i did some estimates Current Cap room estimate (minus rookie allocations, plus estimate from bell, crowder, anderson, harrison, roberts and mosley) 22.9 million (can change based on structure. using the average to estimate) Possible cap savers beechum 8 million crowell 3 million Lee 1.4 million rashard robinson 2 million
don't forget the luck of Cousins pulling a bitch move. Think of where we would be if we were un/lucky enough for him to take Mac's fully guaranteed offer?!?
Who fills Beechums spot? And it makes no sense to cut Lee to save a 1.4mil..... you do have to pay replacements
not sure I agree about the negotiating tactics point, but there's also the larger issue. We have business to conduct and there's opportunity cost as he's delaying
I think you're being too soft. This guy invested in Hackenberg and Petty but talked himself out of Watson and Mahomes. Let that sink in Glad we got Sam, but even he admitted to being surprised he was there at 3 -- so the move up was not some super genius move to get Sam. He was moving to get the yet to be name second or third QB off the board depending on what the giants did. My big hope is that our new coaching staff is being tapped and questioned about the type of players they want. Leaving that to Mac is risky business.
It's just potential cuts not necessarily that we have to for beechum, it would be a rookie if we draft one high (and rookies are already counted on my cap estimate so adds nothing) of course that is a big risk so it may make sense to keep beechum for 1 more year personally for lee , that hewitt kid filled in pretty nicely and could be brought back for a vet minimum plus with lee it's likely we wouldn't release him, but instead trade him for a draft pick as well. we also have some harvey langi dude on the roster as well. if we can get a pick for him , it makes a lot of sense since we won't be picking up his option (10 mil) and he walks next year anyway.
Can’t cut Beechum and count on a 3rd round LT to step right in and protect Sam’s blind side. If we somehow trade back to the 10-15 range and Williams or Little are there? Maybe.
So Bell called Macc's bluff and didn't sign at 4pm? Edit: 4pm was the "start" of the FA signing period, not the deadline.
