Don't forget our own. We also retained Harrison a great depth guy, and Anderson who looks like star now that he's healthy. Pro bowl K on the way also. Lets see what else.
What day is it? Are we supposed to like or dislike Mac today? Amazing, how Mac went from a genius on day one to an incompetent bumbling stooge yesterday to ok today. Are all fans as bi-polar as Jets fans or are we special?
If the reason we didn't sign Paradis was because he prefers to play in a smaller city, then there's nothing our GM could've done about it. That said, I'd like to see him hit on more round 2-4 draft picks. It's been his biggest weakness during his tenure.
One positive is he has upgraded and increased the scouting staff which is one of the benefits of continuity of a FO where over time they get scouts they like and trust. Continuity in FO and the scouting staff is one of the reasons teams like Pitt, Balt and NE draft so well.
According to multiple sources there was a deadline for Bell to accept the offer or they were going to move on. Sure, he can still back out before 4:00 pm today, but I doubt the Jets get burned like that twice in the same off season. It's rare for one person to renege. Now I'm just curious how much cap space is left. I'd estimate about $25m assuming these deals all go through.
When this off season concludes I'm going to make a line graph of Jets fans anxiety level over time. That shit yesterday was downright funny. It was the end of the world until Bell agreed. Apparently patience is not a thing with most Jets fans.
I can’t believe how easy the freaking browns built the squad around there young QB. Poor Sam is going to have to learn a new system after our new GM next year is Few slots later? Cause they signed a RB that 31 other teams didnt want to pay for? lol. Its a step, but please. They are a few slots above the Bills
If you just the APY it’s gotta be more than 25mil. Mosely -17mil Bell- 13mil Crowder-9 mil Osemele- 11mil I would think with Anderson resigning we’re at aprox 40mil left.
Macc just paired his young Franchise QB in Sam Darnold last year and this offseason landed Same a top 3 offensive nightmare in Le'Veon Bell coming out of the backfield. WOW.
As it stands, the Jets currently project to have about $42M in cap space if the following numbers turn out to be true: (once they release Crowell) Cap Space at beginning of league year $92M Trade for Kelechi Osemele ($10M) $82M Signing of WR Jay Bellamy (910K) $81M Signing of WR Jamison Crowder (9.5M) 71.5M Re-signing of DE Henry Anderson (8.4M) 63.1M Signing of RB LeVeon Bell (11.6M) 51.5M Signing of CJ Mosley ($12.75M) Current Cap Space: 38.75M
If you were told last week that before FA even officially began, we’d have landed Bell, Mosley, Crowder, Osemele, and re-signed some guys including Anderson, would you have signed up for that in a heartbeat? I sure would have. My only wish list item not addressed was Paradis, but can’t get every single FA you want. This FA period has been huge so far. Top quality players in their prime, and we aren’t done.
His draft record is not great.... year 1 - Leonard williams was a no brainer. The rest of that draft was a monumental failure.... Devin Smith, Mauldin, Petty, Harrison Year 2 - Darron Lee has not lived up to being a first round pick and the rest of that draft was disaster.... Hackenberg, Burris, Shell, edwards, peake. Jenkins was the lone pick that year that was solid Year 3 - Jamal Adams... took BPA, which is fine. but again that was a top pick. taking maye in the second round even if he is a solid player was a terrible decision for a team with a poor oline, no qb, no skill players, etc... stewart, hansen, legett, donohue, clark, and jones provide nothing, McGwire is nice but he isnt a high impact guy worth praise of that pick year 4 - he took Darnold with a top 3 pick. we will see how Darnold turns out, it will probably make or break him. rest of the draft was mostly 6th roudners due to trades. He loaded up on corners after using high draft picks on safties. and we dont have an elite secondary to show for it (yet?). Here is how i look at it. He has had 4 drafts and 4 offseasons. 3 picks in the top 6.... -We still have no pass rush -We still have a "meh" offensive line -We still lack skills players (Although the Bell singing was big) -We still lack an elite pass rusher He used a top 3 pick on Darnold and will probably user a top 3 pick on a pass rusher. Maybe those 2 turn out to be studs and the Jets take off with a bright future. to me thats not really a huge boost for McCagnan.... taking QBs/Pass rushers in the top 3 is not something you need a genius of a GM to figure out.... I think with a good GM you see more guys from rounds 2-5 having an impact, becoming long term starters and outplaying their draft positions. in 4 drafts we have gotten almost nothing in rounds 2 thorugh 5. -Took darnold #3 overall -Will take Bosa/Allen at #3 overall -signed the(one of) best runningback in football those are "duh" moves. a great GM makes those same moves and supplements it by finding talent in rounds 2 through 5 and bringing hitting on the less known FA signings
Well, he let Myers walk so there goes the best kicker we've had in decades. If he lets Roberts walk, then Macc has managed to take the best unit on the team and blow it up for no good reason. Factor in missing on both A-list Centers, getting stiffed by Barr and not upgrading the Oline and yeah, I can see Macc going for Jet GM of the decade when compared to Idzik. Outside of that? I think we all know the answer..
I'm hoping they do well and still can't save his sorry ass. The only thing Macc has going for him is Irish luck, I guess. He has top rated players fall to him in the draft, and this time he had the top FA fall into his lap with no competition for his services. Unbelievable.
Being as objective as I can, Macc has done a great job so far in FA, with Bell putting him over the top on that score. I won't knock him for Barr bailing, but it's disconcerting, and I would like to know the reason why. If Macc offered him more would he have backed out? Maybe that would've tied MInny's hands, but we'l probably never know. I'd also like to know why Paradis didn't come here - did Macc just not want him and if so, why? Even with the Bell signing, playing hardball can be looked on as smart because Bell signed, but what if he didn't? The fans are demanding that the Jets become relevant NOW, and Macc needs to deliver. Getting Sam last year and Bell now has bought him some grace, but not an unlimited amount. He needs to strike it big in the draft this time, and the Jets need to be playoff contenders this year - not necessarily making the playoffs, but being in the hunt until the end at least. I hope he's learned his lessons, and it's all upward and success from here on out, but until this team wins, he hasn't earned anything yet.
Not gonna happen with our football savant of an owner. Only way Mac gets canned is if he takes Darnold down with him and that's the last thing I want to see.
