Its very simple. Schotty's assinine playcalling cost the Jets the Win.

    Mia 30 NYJ 25.

1/10 Mia 12 w/1:56 remaining. TJ behind Dbrick to the Mia. 9.

    TO Mia.

2/7 Mia 9 w/1:50 remaining. Schotty calls a pass, Nobody open, MS scrambles for 1.

    TO Mia.

3/6 Mia 8 w/1:42 Schotty calls another pass. Shotgun. Nobody Open MS sacked for 7 yd loss back to the 15.

    TO NYJ.

4/13 Mia 15 w/1:16. Schotty calls another pass. Shotgun. Inc. game over.

The Jets had plenty of time + 2 TOs and the Fins were using their TOs anyway. At 2/7 Schotty had 3 downs to get 7 yds. Instead of going with high probabaility running plays w/TJ and a veteran OL to move the ball forward conservatively and win the freaking game. Schotty decides to get cute and put the game in the hands of his rookie QB and quickly digs himself into a hole where the entire game is on MS. Schotty is a buffoon. All he needed to do was to get 7 yds (and most likely a TD) on 3 running plays. Instead he goes Shotgun and forces the rookie to make the game winning plays. STUPID. MONUMENTALLY STUPID. THE EXACTLY SAME STUPID TYPE OF SCENARIOS THAT HE CREATED AGAINST BUFFALO. The smart OC in this situation puts the ball in the hands of his AFC leading RB and his 1st Class Running game and he POUNDS THE ROCK INTO THE ENDZONE.

But see thats too easy for the brilliant Schotty. He has to get cute and start calling pass plays out of the Gun. The man is a moron. He outhinks himself. He simply refuses to simply pound the rock when that is obviously the smart, conservative and sound approach.

In this case if Schotty runs the ball the Jets win the game. Instead Schotty chose to pass and cost the team the game.

    Fire Schotty Today.

You do realize we're not even in that position if we stop one of the three scores between 2 kickoff returns and a fumble recovery for a TD, right?

We put up 25 points (should have been 27) with the #2 ranked defense in the league on our side. You want to fire schotty because of the last possession of the game when he didn't call a run?

We ran the ball way too much in the first half against a team whose weakness is by far their secondary. Running the ball as much as we did led to 6 points.

He adjusted in the second half to pass more and we put up points. Running the ball with the game on the line against the 4th ranked run D in the league when we had been passing on them pretty much at will in the second half isn't too great of an idea if you ask me.

This game is on the kickoff coverage team. Bottom line, end of story. We played outstanding on defense all game and put up plenty of points on offense.

It's not that simple. At that stage of the game, recognizing Miami has one of the worst pass defenses in the league, go back to see what had been working.

Including and since in the prior possession, when Sanchez and Jones hooked up for a 28 yard pass play, the Jets ran the ball 6 times for a total gain of 24, while they passed it 8 times for a total yardage of 126 (not counting the crazy call on the two point conversion attempt). So, at that point they were gaining four yards on rushes on average, but 17.5 on passes, including big yardage in the prior time in the red zone, and of course the 4th and 10 from Miami's 28 that got them 16, put them in the red zone, and drew a pass interference call on top of that.

At that point, having just run for only three yards on first and ten, I don't think calling for a pass play on second and seven is grounds to fire the OC.

I know you guys are upset, but this is really gross overkill.

And remember - Ryan had the ability and the right to fire BC if he didn't want him. He picked BC. It was his choice. How does that enter into the equation of who is responsible?

Uh, it's not a major point, but ftr the Jets threw the ball 16 times in the first half, and nineteen in the second. More in the second, yes, but not much more...

I will say the Jets clearly went down the field more in the second half.

Wow. It seemed like we ran a lot more than passed in the first half and vice versa in the second.

We actually had 18 passing plays in the first half counting the sack and the muff from the shotgun where Keller recovered the ball. Vontae Davis also had a defensive hold on a play that was enforced. That's 19 overall and I'm counting the defensive hold and the muff as a pass between them, although really the Jets called 19 pass plays and 18 runs.

Its funny to see how some folks here simply do not understand basic football. First of all yes there were other things that happened in the game - most notably 2 TDs given up by ST.

But the very simple fact is that w/1:56 to go in the game the Jets were in position to win the game. 1/10 on the Mia 12. When you have the ball in that situation - you MUST GET A FIRST DOWN at the 2 and/or SCORE the game winning TD. There are no excuses. You either succeed or you fail.

The Jets FAILED to advance the ball. The Jets FAILED to get a First Down. The Jets FAILED to get into the End Zone.

The reason why the Jets failed to do any or these things is primarily due to stupid play selection by the OC. The Jets should have pounded the ball on the ground for the first down or the TD. VERY SIMPLE SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL which is the JETS STRENGTH.

Instead the OC called shotgun pass plays that went to the Jets weaknes: putting a rookie QB in an avoidable situation. Predictably the Rookie QB LOST YARDS and predictably the Jets LOST THE GAME.

ITS VERY VERY SIMPLE. A Smart OC in that situation Pounds the Rock Forward and into the End Zone. A dumb OC does what Schotty did.

The Jets strength on first and 10 from the 28 got 0 yards second and 10 we threw incomplete, third and 10 we threw incomplete, 4th and 10 we threw complete to the 12 yard line. First down we got 3 to the 9. Second and 7 on a squeezed field there are no easy options.

In the NFL when you get in the red zone you get a TD about 22% of the time running the ball about 28% of the time passing the ball. A FG does nothing for us down 5.

    Its not simple at all.

Exactly. I was wron in saying that the loss was completely on the OC,it was in the heat of the moment after being crushed by the Jets once again. i think that was the worst part...the Jets lost this game on their own. the Dolphins were terrible. the game was in hand and the 2nd and 6 is what stands out to me,even more than the Ginn returns.

Passing successfully inside the 15 yd line is difficult because the defense has the advantage since there is alot less room than say when you are trying to pass with 40 yds in front of you. Add to this the fact that you have a rookie qb and the chances of success in the air are decreased. The BL is that on 2/7 w/3 downs to get a first or score the smart OC w/a rookie QB & TJ in the backfield runs the ball. Running the ball is more conservative w/an increased chance for positive yds. All we needed was positive yards on 2nd down. The idea is to set up manageable conversion opportunities. 3/4 is more manageable than 3/7. 4/1 is more manageable than 4/15.

The Dumb OC w/a rookie QB & TJ in the backfield throws the ball with a rookie. We have a dumb OC so we called a pass play which predictably failed and which forced another pass play which led to a sack and 4/15 which forced another pass play which predictably failed.

Anybody who fails to see that the OC is responsible for this idiotic playcalling needs help. That failed sequence was all on the Playcalling.

I've been reading ganggreen forums for a while but this is my first post. Hopefully this point below has not been mentioned yet, sorry if it has

I don't have an issue with Schotty calling passes in the RZ at the end but I do have an issue with him not rolling Sanchez out on at least one of those plays. They need to roll him out more because his strength is passing on the run. I just didn't get that at the end

Also, I don't understand how anyone from this forum can get on Rex, saying he's a bad coach etc. He really has been snake bit. He should be 7-1. They lost 2 games directly because of a rookie qb/bad play calling. The loss yesterday was due to the Special Teams and some bad play calling at the end. Only the Monday night game was the one where Rex's defense was flat out beaten.

This is priceless , first everyone complains we don't run enough . Then when we run and a good run defense shuts us down - our runs are too one dimensional - duh - Miami is not Buffalo or Oakland . Why did we have success in the 2nd half yesterday - we opened up the offense and threw the ball

Sometimes, its smart to play against your opponents weakness which is Miami's pass defense . You talk about putting a rookie Qb in an avaoidable situation, running or forcing the run against a tough run D - will give you that result a large % of the time - 3rd and longs.

100% Correct! Shotty is terrible at play calling. I hope his is gone at the end of the season.

I think the point is that Schotty chose to pass in a situation where the smart play call was a run. If TJ picks up 3 yds it would have left us with 3/3 and 2 downs to get 3 yds. When you call a pass in that situation 4 things can happen and 3 of them are bad. It would have been wiser to have run the ball. The refusal to run the ball likely cost the game.

I can't believe this thread is still going when plenty of posters have provided valid counter-arguments that this loss was not on Schotty. The Schotty-haters don't even consider the facts. They just want Schotty gone.

    A word from an outsider....

First, I pull for you guys hard. I'd love to see you go on a run and win your division.

That said, whether or not the KR or not running in that situation cost you the game, I'm always left scratching my head by the handling of the Jets running game.

Last year was a great example. You had an aging quarterback (Favre)who seemed to hit the wall the last six games of the season, the AFC's leading rusher (Jones), one of the best big play RB's in the game (Washington), a newly-revamped offensive line built to run the ball, and Schottenheimer seemed determined to win in November/December in New York with Favre, who seemed to regress in each of those last six games? It was a ridiculous recipe that cost you guys dearly. That is exactly when you turn to your running game. Jones should have gotten the ball 20 times a game over those last six games and Washington between 10-15 touches on the ground and another 3-5 on screens, etc. Again, it's New York, late in the year... you HAVE to run the football!

I love Washington as a player. It's hard not to go to that well a few times too many, but Schottenheimer seems to lack a grasp of the traditional running game. You take a back like Jones and let him get those 1-3 yard gains early. Schottenheimer seems to say, "Well the run isn't working," and abandon it or relegate it to cute plays with Washington the rest of the way. You can't do that. I remember the game here in Tennessee last year when Jones started slow and finished with like 96 yards. By the end of the game he turned those 1-3 yard gains into 4-5 yarders.

    I just don't get it.

Yep. They've settled on BC being the reason the Jets are 4-4 when it is far more complicated than that.

In the previous six rushing plays the Jets ran prior to second and seven during their last possession, the Jets picked up three or less half the time. Let's say they pick up three, bringing up third and four. Run the ball again, expecting to run it a fourth time?

If the Jets had run it four times and failed to pick up a first down, you would REALLY hear a large number of fans screaming for BC's head instead of the few here out to get him.

The simple fact of the matter is, with the passing game clicking, the Jets just having scored after having moved the ball well in the red zone with the pass on their previous possession, and Miami giving up huge yardage to the pass - not so much to the run, and the first down rush only gaining three, passing on second and seven is not a bad call. Certainly not a bad enough call that would lead any reasonable person to want the OC fired.

BC is not the simple answer to what ails the Jets.

It's very easy to be a shadow OC if you not only get to call the plays but say what their result will be as well.
