This is what Ryan had to say about Gholson at his presser yesterday. It certainly doesn't come across as a full blown endorsement and sounds eerily similiar to what Mangini was saying about him last year. "On Gholston: "He's improving. He's still not where I think he's capable of playing at. I think we're going to just see that steady climb in the way he plays. I see him as he's got a lot of potential. I think he can get better — I know he can get better. But he's improving.""
Yeah, I watched the presser yesterday and while he was trying to pump Gholston up, is was in stark contrast to the unconditional flood of praise he was giving to the rest of the players he was asked about (minus the punter, who gets slammed by Rex every single times he talks about him). Those comments certainly aren't a ringing endorsement to the guy Ryan named starter in Pace's absence. I bet Westerman gets at least half the snaps that Pace would have by the end of that 4 week stretch.
VonRyan has been gassin up Gholston since day one probably to build up the kid's confidence. Problem is, Ryan might be coming around to the belief share by fans that the Ghost just doesn't have the feel for the game. Vern certainly has all the raw tools, but has no way to utilize it effectively and unfortunately, no intuition on the field. As we all know, the biggest thing the Ghost has going for him is his rookie contract. He's too expensive to cut..
