For me, my top 5 guys I would want at 29 if a trade down is impossible, Brandon Graham Mike Iupati Ryan Matthews Carlos Dunlap Kyle Wilson Zomg we just trade for cromartie! why take Wilson with our #1? Well You can never have enough talented secondary guys, drafting Wilson would pave the way to move Lowery to safety, a spot many of us believe he will excel. It allows us to move Rhodes for a mid rounder. If he is there at 29, Wilson is likely to be clearly the BPA. Cromartie also has only 1 year left on his deal, and is anything but a lock to be the all-star we hope we are getting. If he doesnt pan out, Wilson is in the fold ready to take over next season. If Cromartie performs, and Wilson is ready to become a stud, a couple years down the line we could flip one for more draft picks. And going BPA is what the team needs overall. If Wilson is on the board when we pick, we shouldnt worry about taking him just because we traded for Cromartie.
I deleted Jahvid Best I LOVE Best as a player, but I can't overlook those concussions Its dangerous to draft a RB in the 1st RD who already has two concussions before he plays one down in the pros
The fact that so many people want to draft a RB in the first round pretty much proves what a terrible decision realeasing TJ was. You don't use a first round pick to be the 3rd RB in a RBBC, besides that I don't really think any of these RBs are first round RBs. Cromartie might just be a 1 year player for the Jets, contract will be up at the end of 2010. The Jets will need to add at least 1, maybe 2 CBs via draft, trade or FA. Chris Cook could be an nice option in late Rd 2.

i'm on board. Tate/Kindle/Iupati/Dunlap in the 1st and Gerhart/Hardesty in the second. and id be one happy bastard. I like Mathews alot, but I like the value at RB in RD2 combined with filling another need in RD1.
I didn't think about the concussions, but was more concerned about his pass blocking, or complete lack there of. Besides the question was based on the top 5 Possibilties, not my top 5 hopes. I think the staff is zeroing in on OLB, RB, and a Wideout now that we filled CB#2 with Cro.

These are basically my thoughts on the matter. I just cannot get over the hope of Wilson or Matthews.
I live in the Bay Area and go to 2-3 Cal games per year so I've seen Jahvid Best roughly 6-7 times (he was out injured twice...I was pissed). This is obviously my opinion but I think he is a Chris Johnson type player. I get the concussion concerns and they are quite valid but I think he is a potential superstar that probably will last until pick #29. My concerns over Leon's leg are far greater than Best's head. Greene is the hammer, Leon is the screen and 3rd down guy, and Jahvid is somewhere in between. I know "Ground 'N Pound" probably calls for a 225 lb guy but I think we have a chance at a real gamebreaker.
The problem with Best is that he does not really fill a need on this team aside from a roster spot. If the Jets keep Leon then I hope the CS would use him like how I have suggested they draft Dexter McCluster for if Leon walks: give him about 5-7 carries a game but split him out in the slot for the same amount of snaps. It's a much better use of his skills and a better way to prolong his career. Even if Leon walks, I would not be a fan of taking Best in the first.
Who says that back would be the third option? If the Jets spend a high draft pick on a running back, I'm willing to bet he'll be more involved in the offense than Leon Washington. You don't think Ryan Mathews and Jahvid Best are first round talents? I wouldn't want Best in New York, but that's only because his style of play doesn't fit what we're trying to do here. He's a possibility with a team like the Vikings. Mathews is the second best running back in this draft behind CJ Spiller. I can see him going to the Texans or the Chargers in the first.
