It is not a good position to draft high but yeah, I guess the nice thing about having so many needs for us is that whoever BPA we draft is, he would also be filling a need…the only positions we can safely say we don’t need are punter and OT…every other spot could use help Of course, I do 100% believe that a big part of that is coaching…our coaching, especially on D, has been horrendous and whereas coaching is supported to maximize what you get out of players, it feels like for us its been the complete opposite…
You would think. I was unpleasantly surprised about that on the past game in particular. Minchie two critical TD drops in two games as well as AD dropped passes. Tell me if I’m wrong, but what prevents this CS to toss the rock to Hall who is arguably one of our best yards after the catch
The entire LB room is a tear down. It's part of the reason we can't afford to trade up for any QB that isn't a top tier prospect and there are none of those in this draft. Quincy will be gone (he's the one I'd keep) Sherwood has been awful but will probably be here (solves nothing) Mauigoa is fine but he's probably nothing more than a rotational guy McRary-Ball is a strictly ST guy Mykel Walker I have literally never heard of until yesterday Cam Jones I haven't heard of until we activated him from IR last week It's the biggest weakness on the team right now by a country mile other than QB.
Agree it’s a hot mess Not sure if it’s the biggest as I think WR is a fucking disaster as well…we have two guys who can’t fucking catch the damn ball DE is also bad as there is no one who can generate consistent pressure and the only player really worth a damn is JJ who should be better next year further removed from his injury Safety is a hellhole as well We need help everywhere And despite all of those holes, I STILL think this defense would be a lot better with better coaching…I think Wilks has destroyed this defense
I think Mitchell is going to be fine especially once Garrett is back. Metchie is slowly coming back down to earth, but at the same time Isaiah Williams is coming along. We need to take two WRs regardless, preferably one of them in the first two rounds. Wilks is absolutely playing a role in the defense being awful. The scheme sucks. How many times are teams going to pick us when we're in man to pick up a first down on 3rd and 4? The blitz packages are as bland as humanly possible. A lot of this is coaching and we have to hope Glenn sees it rather than staying loyal to guys because that's what Campbell did with him. The difference is Glenn was a new DC and got better, Wilks is an old dog and he's not going to learn new tricks. Safety isn't really that bad. Moore is very solid, his mistakes are of the rookie variety. Would be nice if we could play a single full game with Stephens, AZ, Brownlee and Moore but that's not going to happen this year with Brownlee on IR. It's a big domino effect IMO. The linebackers are horrendous in coverage, the safeties have to come up to help, the corners are actually holding their own until the opposing playcaller realizes that Wilks will do the exact same thing every third down.
Did anyone catch any of the Houston/Chief's game last night? I did. THAT is what I want...no...let me rephrase that...THAT is what our defense MUST become. I mean, holy shit...KC receivers dropping the ball because they knew they were, legally, going to get DESTROYED! Where in the hell is that kind of tackling ferocity on our team??? It requires little to no talent whatsoever to tackle like you "mean" it! DESTROY would be ball carriers. Not our guys, they just load up for a big hit and bounce off. No wrap up, no in your face tackling. JSMH... I'll finish my watching and counting the missed tackles from yesterday's game. It'll come later tonight. It has to be in the mid-to high 20's of missed tackles seeing as there were almost TWO on every play.
Sign me up. If we can trade down a bit, pick up another pick or two in the first two days and get someone like Carnell Tate? Hell of a start.
Agreed…we have way too many needs to trade up… It’s hard because fucking hell we need a QB in the worst way…we have no starting caliber QB on the roster now…so the temptation to take one will be overwhelming But we just can’t trade up…
And NOT giving into that is EXACTLY what separates the teams always drafting below 20 vs. teams like the Jets and Browns who basically live in the top 10. The perennially GOOD teams resist that temptation 9 times out of 10.
Disgusting performance yesterday... so much for "the players have bought in" theory. I said in the game thread that there's so many holes to fill and that there are maybe a dozen players worth keeping. Mougey is gonna need a bigger boat...
I think your count of a dozen might be a bit generous. To be frank, I count closer to half a dozen at this point.
4 of my dirty dozen are on spectral teams... - Nick Folk - Austin McNamara - Isaiah Williams - Kene Nwangwu The rest... - Mason Taylor - Quincy Williams - Joe Tippmann - Armand Membou - Breece Hall - Garrett Wilson - Will McDonald IV - Olu Fashanu
I would add JJ to that list of keepers…he’ll be one year removed from his Achilles so should be better, and even still, he’s like our best DL…
