Effectively, it's only year 2 because of the reset last year. Besides, he added a lot of talent last year and has the team on the right track. To suggest that he's under pressure (except from impatient fans and dolts in the media) is ridiculous imo.
Really, its only "year 2" in our rebuild because its starting to look like next to no rebuilding happened in JD's actual year 1.
JD is the GM. GM's draft players. JD has overseen 2 full draft classes, one of which was horrendous. We have to stop blaming everything on Gase. He was a bad coach but trotting him out as the reason for all of our struggles isn't accurate. This is like the Darnold defenders blaming Gase for Darnold being a horrible QB. I don't care that Gase ran a different scheme. Does anyone think Mims would be a stud in any scheme? What about Perine? Zuniga? Davis? Would Becton suddenly stop getting injured every 30 minutes and being pouty and overweight in a different scheme?
The 2020 draft wasn't looking horrendous in 2020 or even in 2021 prior to the start of the season. The scheme change definitely made a big difference. Sorry if you can't see or grasp that fact. I never understood the Perine pick, and didn't like the Morgan pick. I think Becton will be fine unless all the reports on him coming out of college were lies and/or totally mistaken. I don't know what the heck happend to Mims. He looked good in 2020 in his limited appearances. I'm starting to think that he is mentally slow and that was never reported when he was in the draft. He also may have been coddled in the draft and in 2020, but not this past year, then pouted. If so, then he isn't the player I thought he was. I think Hall, Becton and Mann will be great Jets for years to come. Mac can only wish he ever had a draft that good. It wasn't horrendous or awful. What is awful is your take on the situation.
Becton has missed 18 games in 2 seasons. Mann was the 20th ranked punter in the league this year. Those are the guys you're saying make it not a bad draft class. But yeah, I'm the one with the awful take. Also love how you're comparing JD to Mac, as if Mac is some kind of barometer of a good GM. You know you have a bad argument when the best you can do is say JD's been better than one of the worst GM's of all time. Yippee.
I think your interpreting the word “pressure” as in he could lose his job after the 2022 season and that isn’t really what I mean. The fact of the matter is if he has a poor off-season that ain’t good. He needs to hit a home run this off-season and that is a pressure packed situation.
Well in truth it didn't did it? What was started was a waste due to captain tourettes being an incompetent fool and I feel I will be able to use that excuse next year also by changing tourettes for Mr Motivator. Think positive though, we have those draft picks to enjoy soon enough
I can't give JD a "pass" for his 2020 draft. However, it also doesn't mean he should be fired or that I've totally soured. And I do think that drafting with totally different schemes in mind is important context too. His 2021 draft has looked far better. While it's a little soon to officially declare what the 2020 class has become, it's really a shame it's looking bad for a lot of those picks. Right now, it's looking like he missed on a WR, S, Edge, and big questions with the OT. And look, here we are in 2022 with those being positions of need. This team would be in a different place if at least one or two of those players were clearly panning out. Overall, I do like JD's approach, love how he's rebuilt the OL and improved skill players while focusing on building through the draft and supplementing via free agency. He just needs to hit on the 2022 draft. No excuses for a bad draft this year.
Another player with a million reasons why he was shite, though it comes to something when we get down to the punter for this kind of conversation
The problem with the scheme excuse is that Becton and Mims' primary problems have been attitude and effort issues.
