Like it or not, Joe Douglas is under a lot of pressure.

If you can't turn a team around with 3 drafts (5 first rounders) and a boatload of cap space every year, i can't have confidence that you will ever turn it around. We're talking about 3 entire years. That's longer than most NFL players careers. Every team we're seeing turn around is doing it much faster than that and the NFL is built for parity

Even with the extra draft picks, and cap space, when you're having to replace almost 53 players, 3 offseasons is not enough. Aside from Q. Williams and Mosely, just about every other player on the team needed to be replaced.

Every team you're seeing turn it around didn't have the abysmal roster the Jets had. You're not being realistic at all imo.

I think expecting to build an 8-win team in 3 years is pretty realistic

If there hadn't been a CS and scheme changes after the 1st year, maybe, but with that, all the young starters, all the injuries the Jets have had which hindered players' development and kept starting units from playing together, it's not a slam dunk. It could happen, and hopefully it will, but if not, it doesn't mean that we're not on the right track and things won't be a lot better in 2023 and/or 2024.

so when does Joe Douglas need to start winning?

sounds like you are content with a last place finish in 2022. What about 2023? Can he have 5 years of last place finishes and still keep his job in your mind?

The expectation should be competitive football next season IMO.

Without seeing how FA and the draft shake out for us, I can't give a win prediction but around .500 should be a reasonable expectation.

We have the cap space and draft capital to infuse this roster with talent.

If 2022 looks like 2021, JD's seat will absolutely become very warm going into next offseason (barring a season-ending injury to Zach).

Great vid. Really like your positivity.

I see it like this with JD.. He is known as a draft guru yet his first draft was an abomination. Now that was a tough year because of Covid and maybe his eye for talent is seeing prospects live. This very well could be the case because his next draft was much better (probably couldn’t get any worse). This year if this is the case we have a huge opportunity because we are coaching in the SR bowl and will get a good look at a lot of prospects.

JD has a long leash.. but if he keeps taking OL with our first rounders I’m not going to be happy. Especially when there are a lot of playmakers in this draft.

Barring unforeseen injuries, the team should take a step or two forward this year, and be more competitive. I am not content with a last place finish ever, but just because I'm not content, doesnt mean that I'm going to be irrational and hold him to some totally unrealistic standard that no one could meet as some of you are wanting to do. If he doesn't have a very good offseason, then his seat should start getting uncomfortable, perhaps very uncomfortable. If he has another very good offseason, then the pressure should be on Saleh and his CS to develop the players and put them in a position to succeed. No more trying to shove square pegs into round holes. Adapt schemes to fit the talent that is here. Barring injuries to key players, if the team only wins 5 games or less, Saleh's seat should be red hot.

As long as JD is still making wise decisions regarding the cap, the draft, trades, etc. and is not making any bizarre picks, not desperately reaching for players, his job should be secure. IMO Saleh is the one that needs to worry if the team doesn't start winning. IMO even if Saleh fails, JD gets to hire the next HC.

    Just so people are aware.

    Trumaine Johnson
    Quincy Enunwa
    Leveon Bell

Accounted for over 15 Millon of dead cap this year. Magic Mike loved contracts with no outs.

We still have little movement of CJ Mosley but at least he's still on the team.

This team was a disgrace. We have some building blocks now and I expect the GM and HC will ride and Die on the success of Zach.

No, they have 4 top 40 picks + 60M in cap space, and another year of implementing their offensive and defensive schemes.

They don't need to actually make the playoffs, but they need to be competing come December.

    Compete or fuck off.

no way Douglas gets to try winning with 3 different head coaches. He’s had his chance to hire a head coach. If it fails its on Douglas

Nonsense, imo. Gase was here first and never should have been hired, so he doesn't count.

It's thought processes like yours that have kept this team awful for over 50 years. Wake up!

Joe Douglas needs to win more games. I would say the fan base is split between Joe Douglas Apologists/Fans who are sick and tired of patience patience patience. We've been rebuilding since 2015- "But we've never done it this way before" ENOUGH JUST WIN GAMES. We are 0-12 in the AFC East in 2 years

This is the same Joe Douglas who said in "One Jets Drive" we are going to be surprised how the team performs in 2020. The team then went on to win 2 games in one of the worst seasons we've seem from this franchise. Guess he said that to sell tickets!

It's been talked about in this thread how the Bengals quickly turned it around after having 4 wins last year(Yes they have a stud QB in Burrow) but they built around him something the Jets didn't do with Darnold(NOT SAYING DARNOLD IS GOING TO BE A GOOD NFL QB BUT THERE WAS A TIME HE WAS THROWING TO LAWERENCE CAGER AND CHRIS HOGAN) That is on Joe Douglas.

Joe Douglas success will be tied to Zach Wilson. We have the ammo to build around Zach this offseason, and I am optimistic we will.

If Wilson looks great next year and the Jets win 5-6 games, Douglas isn't going anywhere and most fans will be happy.

Though it might sound like it, I am not truly not darksider. I haven't missed a home game since 98(No need to share your condolences)

It's really hard to continue to listen to the bullshit this team feeds us year in and year out with no result. Just show us results.

The whole thing is if Zack Wilson is going to be a better qb than Herbert, Mahomies, Burrows,Lamar, Lawrence, etc. Probably not. So we have at best a qb that is in the 8-15th best qb in the league. This means we are at best a team that makes the playoffs but does not go very far. for the next 5 yrs ,

There's almost no way Zach Wilson is that good.

It's more likely that he is the 24th-32nd best QB in the NFL year after year and we wind up losing pretty badly until the Jets decide enough is enough.

That's why it's important for the Jets to ditch him when they ditch the rest of the circus in a year or two. The late 70's early 80's Jets could never get away from the Richard Todd choices they made in '76-78 and that's why the team mostly sucked during that interval.

Recognizing a sunk cost and not letting it cost you more is one of the most effective things you can do. It's the quality that lets you rise above current circumstances and prosper despite bad decisions in the past.

No doubt, but not all of them have 5 picks in the top 69 and a boat load of cash to spend. It is also year 3.
