I also wasn’t high on Mims. I wanted Jefferson badly in that draft because of his proven ability against stiff competition but figured he wouldn’t fall to the 2nd round…

but i just can't wrap my head around it because burks on film is just like harry and mims. I think it's more of you watch college football and get a feeling on a guy rather then actually breaking down film. which is fine but that's the only way it makes sense to me on why you like burks

Since it was his first draft and the Jets' roster was almost completely barren, I don't think he was being greedy as much as he was trying to fill as many holes as he could and add more talent to the team. I think it will be another year or two before we can accuse him of getting greedy in trading down for more picks.

Burks is nothing like Mims on film that comparison is not even close. Mims was a smooth straight line speed guy with some nice end zone catches and back shoulder plays. I saw Mims as a poor man’s AJ Green. Plus their body types are completely different as well. Burks has girth and built like a brick shit house.

burks is thicker for sure but also slower. but i'm not talking about body build. i'm talking about actual film. mims never looked 4.4 speed on film even though he ran it. his play speed is slower. could be a processing issue or effort. IDK. but both films show a lot of contested catches and winning with physicality. the difference with mims is he was drafted for gase's system which was more vertical and power run. Our system now needs people who can route run, get open fast and pick up YAC. also big blocking outside WRs are nice. burks despite his size is a poor blocker. he's no corey davis in that regard. he doesn't have the route ability of an elijah moore either. those are 2 people JD brought in to match the scheme. burks doens't really match it. If he was a better blocker and more physically without the ball I could see him as a davis eventual replacement, but he's not. london is actually better in both those facets and shows more effort. I'd rather take a flyer on a guy like watson who's film is cleaner then burks and shows an ability to get open (or a pierce or ross as an outside guy) and then grab a small shifty guy later on like a wandale or austin as our WR4.

In a perfect world we'd build the defense in the 1st round, then look at TE and WR in the 2nd and then 3,4,4 be WR, o-line, and maybe RB. then finish with whatever BPA project is out there. If the stars align and we could get KT at 4 and hamilton falls to 10 because teams are dumb i'd be pretty happy with that

I'm glad you decided to research him more. He's a lot of fun to watch and really would be a terrific fit on our team. Here's hoping he's Jet come draft day!

I think it's a good thing he was so dominant against lesser competition. The senior bowl and the testing have confirmed for me what I saw on tape, and that should translate to dominance in his conference. I also like his usage and versatility. He'll be able to come in and immediately contribute in a variety of ways, while he refines his game.

As of now, I'm also leaning defence at 4 and 10. Im torn how I would approach it though. Sauce is the cleanest prospect in my mind, and I think the drop from him to the 2nd or 3rd guy is larger than the drop from edge 2/3 to edge 4-6. With the edge depth I may take Sauce at 4 and best edge at 10. Then take watson at 35, OL at 38 if a guy like Zion is there. We have a lot of draft capital, and I'd be okay using some of it to move up to target key players if one falls to late 1st that we love, or jump back into the 2nd.

Where is this narrative about London being fragile coming from. He's probably the most physical of all the WRs coming out. Does he get up slowly at times yes, but that isn't due to being fragile its because of play style. He fights for every inch, and that makes him more likely to take big shots. Additionally, he's often elevating well above the DBs, so when he comes down, he can come down hard.

He is not Mims. I liked Mims quite a bit coming out. He had the physical traits, showed improved route running at the senior bowl. However, what he lacked most was between the ears and in his chest. London is a smart player that plays with heart and fire. He's a high floor player in my mind.

yeah watson is tough for sure but nothing look bad on his film. the issue is, is it because of low competition or is it because he can be that dominant. either way he intrigues me enough and we have enough extra picks i'd take a chance on him if he lasts until the 3rd maybe even a late 2nd if we get an extra one or slide back

i'm not a fan of CB in the 1st TBH. mostly because i like echols and hall and because CB isn't hugely important in our defense. you don't need an elite man CB for this system. with that said IMO sauce, stingly, and booth are pretty even as the T1 Cbs (stingly is better but the injuries drop him down and I don't want the injury risk at all personally) after that there is a group of 4-5 T2 guys. but for our needs i'd rather take a later guy like a josh jobe in the 5th. with that said if BPA is a CB so be it, we need to add talent more then reach for needs

That's fair. If we're talking Stingley after his freshman year, I'd agree. But, between injuries and inconsistencies I'd much prefer Sauce. If I'm not mistaken we were around league average in man coverage last year, also, Saleh has had a couple elite CBs during his previous stops. Jalen Ramsey in Jacksonville, which really helped put them over top, and Sherman in Seattle. I also like Hall and Echols, just like the idea of adding Sauce to that group. This wouldn't preclude us from going edge at 10, and these two moves will dramatically help the D moving forward.

I agree with that, I don't want to use a top 10 pick on a guy coming off a lisfranc injury. especially one at the CB position

we don't really man up very often. and I think we did it more then usual for a saleh defense due to the lack of rush with the front 4. the better the edges are for us, the less we will play man. as far as saleh goes he was only a LB coach in jax. he was only a defensive quality control coach in seattle and sherman was a 5th round rookie. just like hall and echols were for us (young late round CBs) he never came into a room with a legit CB really. he made them look good in the system. If we were going to get someone at 4 i'd much rather have hamilton then sauce. he'd make a much bigger impact in our defense and safety is a bigger need then CB for us and he's probably the best player in this draft

It’s hard to like a player on the field that doesn’t play smart and taking big hits like you said is a problem at the NFL level. I’ve said it before I just don’t think he will be healthy or dominant at the NFL level. I think he has the most potential to fall in the draft.

I like your Ross idea in the 2nd. He’s a more polished than Watson but the same flavour. Although I haven’t seen much of Watson tape just YouTube highlights. Ross I’ve liked for a while. His tape is explosive especially with Lawrence. He reminds me of Kenny Goliday when he was coming out and in Detroit he had good success.

I don't know that anyone used the term "fragile," but the reality is that he has a thin frame. He's not thick like Burks. He has a very aggressive, physical play style. Rather than avoiding contact, he seeks it out. That is going to lead to injuries in the NFL. You can make book on that. IMO he is a player that needs to change his play style if he has any hopes of having a lengthy career in the NFL.

    So Watson's frame at 6'4 210 isn't concerning but London's at 6'4 220 is?

I was replying to Rockinz who mentioned fragile in his first sentence, and also in a previous posts. I also saw another post a week or so ago from a poster stating something similar.

Based on his weigh in, it's looks like he's put on some weight since college. 220 is a good weight for him, which would comp him to Mike Williams 6'4 220.

Regarding play style, I'd rather have a player that is aggressive and physical than the opposite. I think it's easier to dial back than to dial up intensity. Is it a risk, sure there's always a risk. We have recently witnessed it with Enunwa. He's s young guy, i think he'll learn when to give up on plays. He's also a little more illusive then often given credit for, which helps.

Ross's injury history scares me, especially anything relating to neck and/or spine. I wouldn't take a flyer until the late rounds, and even then I'd need to see who else is on thr board. He looked great as a freshman, but not so much since. Watson is a more complete prospect.

He's actually a smart player. He's just uber competitive. This should be seen as a plus.

Agree regarding playstyle. That kind of intensity is also somewhat indicative of work ethic.
