Preseason is meaningless... Chad was one of the few who had a good game against the Pats... Everyone freaked cuz of that Vikings game... you know the Vikings... the team that just lost to the Lions...
If everyone adhered to that logic, Chad never would have become our starter in 2002, and we never would have had that magical season.... Listen, no coach wants to admit he has a QB controversy, if he thinks his chance has any chance of competing.... So we can't just wait for Chad to play his way out of a job, because he won't.... He'll perform well enough for us to win 7-9 games this year, and Clemens won't see the field again... We have to move forward, and Chad's injury opened the door for Clemens to step in and take the job... He showed some jitters early, but he showed that he deserves another shot with that 4th quarter....
I can't believe how quick some of you are to throw Pennington under the bus. Does a hot 4th Quater by Clemens cost Pennigton the starting job? What I saw yesterday was encouraging. Clemens holds the possibility of being a good may we say even a great QB. Clemens time hasn't come yet however. NO one can win with a OL that is offensive in name only. NO one can win with a defense that has the consistency of Swiss cheese. Pennington has won a lot more game than lost for this franchise. He deserves some loyalty before we throw him over the side.!!!
133-132 in Chad's favour. No matter, there clearly isn't a groundswell in favour of a change. I can't see anyone but Chad starting next week.
Man, Both lavColes and j-mac should have made those clutch catches... they have to.. i get it, penny has such a nice touch on his passes and they are used to him... however, word was that j-mac and kellen were working well together in camp. he really let his boy down. i say start kellen again but we need to block for him. GO JETS!!! THE SEASON IS FAR FROM OVER.
Kellen should get the start against Miami and Buffalo I think he did enough yesterday to deserve getting another look, a more extended shot. Keep Chad there as a relief measure, and let him get back to 100%. There were things in the game yesterday that Kellen did, that Chad wouldn't do. On the good side, Kellen threw medium/deep passes on a rope and was not as accurate as Pennington, but still accurate. On the bad side, he held the ball too long and allowed himself to get sacked, or didn't get out of the pocket in time as it collapsed. Chad has the sense to get rid of the ball earlier, but he has been starting for 8 years, and kellen hasn't. I trust that Clemens will pick this up soon. Either way, Kellen looked very comfortable in there, very poised, especially in the second half. Forget the INT because it was not his fault. The funny thign to me was, he really didn;t do anythign Chad doesn't so. By this I mena he wasn;t bombing the ball deep on every drive. The threw the same passes Chad throws, but he throws them with more zip, albiet a little less accurately. Timing-wise, when he got rid of the ball, he was fine. I was also impressed by his ability to hold the ball in when he was throwing the quick-hitter to Coles that was going to get jumped by the CB. Put Kellen in again for the next 2 weeks, as these are teams with weaker Ds, and see if he can keep it up. Considering the team he just played, he did well for a first timer, you can't deny that.
I like how everyone on the board needs their very own thread to voice their very special opinion on Clemens.
Honestly at this point, Kellen has shown he is going to be the future of this team. In my mind, the Jets aren't winning anything this year (no Super Bowl) so if I were the Jets, I sit Kellen back down and here's why... 1) Kellen should've gained confidence from his start this week. He knows in his own mind now that he IS the future of the franchise, and it is only a matter of when, not if. 2) Our offensive line is so terrible that it is offensive. There is no legitimate reason to put our future behind that trash that we call an o-line. What do you all say when Kellen takes a rotator cuff injury towards the end of a 7 sack performance? There will be a bunch of those this year. 3) Not only does Kellen know he is the future, but deep down inside Chad must know this too. What does this mean for Chad? This means that this is a contract year. At this very point in time, Chad is still the best QB on the Jets roster. He gives the Jets the best chance to win NOW. This plays to the Jets and Chad's benefit. Chad will keep us competitive, Chad will increase his contract value for his new team, and Chad will increase his trade value for when we trade him somewhere. Chad's performance this year could be the difference between a 2nd round pick, or a 1st and a 3rd and maybe more. If Chad plays the way he did against New England (and with the hardest part of our schedule out of the way, why wouldn't he?), he could carry TREMENDOUS trade value. Teams that need QBs typically have high draft picks. This draft pick could be used to either trade down and stockpile even more picks, and then draft a slew of linemen, on both sides of the ball. Chad will be back in there the second he is healthy. Next year will be Kellen's time, but for now, this is Chad's show. I think the Jets owe Chad that much for the warrior, the leader, and the great person he has been for the Jets organization. And from a business perspective, it is a shrewd thing to do for the future of this team.
Pennington is my favorite player on the Jets offense... BUT...His limitations cannot be ignored by me anymore, I consistently tried to defend and look away from his arm strength, but after seeing what Clemens could do, I was wide-eyed. KC threw balls fast...He had a rough 3 quarters, but this was IN Baltimore against that defense...To see him bounce back for that final quarter to get his team within 2 JMac drops of a tie game says a lot about his demeanor and confidence... I and most Jets fans love you Chad...But I want to see Clemens.
But why? Essentially, he led a game tying drive, and we were down so much because of the D, not because of him. It is not wise to end this trial before we know for sure what he has to offer. Plus, if he comes out and doinated in the next 2 weeks and they realise he is the future, we'll still be before the trade deadline.
People, We are not going to WIN THE SUPERBOWL this year! Let Clemens get the playing time he needs now so he will be ready when it is time to compete with the big boys! We have to take a step back in wins this year to take a step forward for the future!
He was the only guy to have a good game vs New England. Until he bombs consistently, after all of ther success he has brought here it's his job. Every year he has been helathy, the NYJs are in the playoffs. This is one of our most successful periods in our history. If people want to start finding whats wrong with this team, they should stop wasting breath on this needless QB bullshit and focus on the disappointment of the D and both swiss cheese lines. Thas why we suck, not Chad. Not one bit.
And he came out and played well in week one when it counted. The rest of the team let him down, not the other way around like everyone wants to see it.
Dude, haven't you heard? We aren't going to win a Super Bowl this year anyway, so why bother playing Pennington? Just start the rookie and hey, if we are lucky we can maybe play for a draft pick too. Whooooweeee!!
 it really is amazing. The Chargers are 0-2 also,i wonder if they and their fans are ready to pack it in yet. I swear the Jets fan base is like a casino full of problem gamblers. You can go the safe route and have the best chance of a good season with Chad...nah screw that, throw the rookie in there and see what we get.
Actually they're 1-1:beer:. But...How can't we panick? Our defense is atrocious, our OLine is bad...How is that NOT room for panicking?
