Woody has been cheap with them for years. The fact that they are finally spending the way they should have been all along, doesn't erase that.
I don't think Woody Johnson would have ever said no if they had the courage of their convictions. I just don't think the CS and the FO was very keen on the FA market last year, given what they thought about their team.
They've been historically an organization not good for the signing bonus or the guaranteed money. This is the first recent off-season where they've gone against that.

Amen. According to some of our brilliant posters, the owner is responsible for everything and will be a cheap no good SOB until the team wins the SB. Winning has nothing to do with the FO the CS or the players. It's all the owner. Kraft is a football god. Three SBs in NE have nothing to do with coaching, players, drafting, key signings or anything. It's all Kraft. Kraft getting a new stadium for the Pats 40 miles from Boston in a sleepy town that is closer to Providence with only one road in and out and charging the highest ticket prices in the NFL - brilliant. Johnson getting the Jets a home for the first time in their history, in NJ, 12 miles from NYC, and splitting the costs with the Giants - cheap and stupid. The Jets not breaking for the bank for free agents in years past because they were following the Pats model - cheap and stupid. Johnson spending big money on free agents in 08 to fill gaping holes in the Jet trenches - cheap and stupid. I just don't get it. No matter what the man does, it is wrong. WSS - bad idea. New stadium in NJ - bad idea. First class training facility in NJ - bad idea. Hiring Mangini as coach - bad idea ( no alternative has ever been suggested other than that Johnson should spend a ton of money on coaches). Johnson even gets knocked for not giving mulit-millionaire retired players who never have to pay for anything more expensive free gifts when they retire. Curtis Martin really needs a new car and an overseas plane ticket!!!! Earning $8 milliion a year was not enough. Jet fans a rare breed.
