I thought that might happen. But now the Jets have a great chance at an elite defense, and they have the RB and WR's to do some damage. If Fitz brings last years completion percentage and TD/INT ratio (17 to 8) that puts the Jets into serious playoff contention.
I'm sorry, I understood your point and I agree with it. my post was not meant to disagree at all with that. I guess my post was distracting
I'm not saying Geno is going to have a career arc like Fitz. I'm just saying that Geno's completition percentage could go up. Geno went from 55% to 59% I think it'll be in the 60's this year if he starts. And yes you're correct we need a viable vet to come in and compete with Smith. Fitz is the best option when he gets cut unless another team swoops in and guarantees a starting job to him. He'll be a Jet in 2015.
Now playing in a division with serious threats on defense, and Brady. Need o-line help no matter who the signal caller is.
Awesome. At the very least we'd have him as a fall back. Who knows, maybe Geno will beat him out, but at least we have a plan B. Jets could potentially draft an Olineman at #6 or trade back if Mariota is gone. I wouldn't be opposed to trading up from #37 to get Melvin Gordon.
We've already seen the focus for Smith has to be cutting down turnovers. If he doesn't do that and stay consistent at it, he's never going to stick in the league. Fitz did cut down on his turnovers. He's got a very serviceable record in that regard now.
I hope Smith develops into a solid starting QB. He just needs to make better decisions with the ball. Turnovers will happen but just as long as he's taking care of the ball for the most part, and he's putting up points it can be tolerated.
Reading Hoyer is at the Texans facilities taking his physical. Speculation: Fitz for a seventh could happen early today.
So talk of Redskins targeting mariota also I don't think we land him unless we trade up and I personally wouldn't be happy if we traded up for him
It seems to me that except for a few top tier QB's, learning how to play QB in the NFL is a multiyear process. Thats why guys in their early 30's that were scrubs in their 20's are viable starters now. The best of the bunch learn to limit their turnovers after a first season. The majority take longer. The Jets in 24 hours have become a team most definetely in win now mode. You cant add all these pieces and roll with a QB with an even TD to Interception ratio. Geno could improve on these metrics, and he has special skills, great arm strength, good mobility, durable, etc. But the Jets just cant roll with Geno yet. Maybe in a few years after he matures.
Fowler I like and I also like Beasley, but I'd rather pick them at #6. We only trade up if we have to, we don't have to right now
Yep, agreed. The nice thing about Fitz is he does have some pocket awareness and mobility. Last year he ran 50 times for 184 yards and 2 TD's compared to Geno running 59 times for 238 and 1 TD. And Geno is the mobile spread offense guy. I wonder if they think they have something in guys like Aboushi and Dozier.
Of course... Nobody on the team should be handed the position. It would be great if Geno can cut down on his INT's. He would become a very good QB then.
That and better decision making. But mostly decision making. Turnovers will happen but I can tolerate them if he's for the most part putting up points.
