Marino to me is like Favre. These guys had cannons and dominated early. Then when Ds figured out they could barely read or even make a pre-snap adjustment, they had mediocre careers. I look for QBs that learn their craft and improve. Brady, Peyton, Rodgers, Brees. Marino and Favre? Downward trending after great starts... dumb people blessed with a big arm. To me, that's what not playing QB is about.
Sounds like a high schooler looking up stats and trying to make up an argument as if from personal experience. I get it, you never saw the guy which is ok. I never saw Abe Lincoln but he was way overrated as a President. Talk about Wonderlic scores, that guy was DUMB! That's how foolish you sound. _
Montana actually was a mobile quarterback. I noted earlier in the thread that just about every major QB in history has had at least one playoff stinker. Montana's worst playoff game was the one where he played poorly, left due to injury and his team lost by 46 points. This came in the season in which Montana suffered what many thought might be career-ending back injury. Montana returned early against doctor's orders and got the team into the playoffs. The 49ers could not run the ball against the Giants, Montana threw some interceptions and the game got out of hand early just like Super Bowl 48.
My reasoning is very sound, I am 100% fair when evaluating him. I call him an all time great but for me he's not in that top group, can't be when you gag that many times w/ the level of talent he has had to work with. I never said the Seahawk game was his fault, it was a total team collapse but he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt based on his past. He was awful too, he's their best player. This wasn't mainly on him like most of the other playoff losses but he played poorly. I think his moment was the '06 title game, that was the high point for him. Bringing Indy back, other than that he's had some good games but I agree no moments like Brady's SB winning drives. The discussion was about Denver's talent. Denver had so much talent they could win a playoff game w/ Tim Tebow. It wasn't saying Tebow is as good as Manning in any way. That is all great but w/ the SB on the line going down for the potential tying TD he threw an INT for a TD to end all hopes. Go back and read what people were saying about Brady his first couple of seasons. he wasn't a great #s guy when winning SBs, he was a great QB though at least for the last 2. That man changed an organization that was headed down the toilet and turned them into a dynasty. who said he never had bad games? and he left the field w/ a lead in the 1990 title game before he was knocked out. when did Brady ever lose 43-8? when was he ever out of a playoff game by halftime? he's not punished b/c he doesn't have those great moments, he's punished b/c he has gagged so often in postseason despite having top notch talent around him. That is what knocks him down out of the top 5. Marino never had the talent around him that Rodgers has had. if he did he would have won SBs. but Rodgers is an all time great, if he keeps up this pace he will be better than Manning and marino. please don't compare Namath to Marino. That is an insult to Dan.
I find it pretty hilarious that Junc starts a thread called "Let us never compare Peyton to Brady again" , yet starts it off doing just that - comparing Peyton to Brady. And in his subsequent 100ish posts in the thread, he continues to compare Peyton to Brady....
I find it hilarious how you never contribute anything to the site and just take shots at posters who do.
I don't know if I contribute anything or not - probably not. But you are about the only person I ever really take a shot at.. It's because you are a pompous a-hole with no sense of humor. This response to that post made in jest, shows exactly that... AGAIN
I'm not sure who you are describing but if that is supposed to me you couldn't be more wrong. Stick to the topic, if you disagree then bring something to the table to make it a meaningful discussion. The last few pages haven't really involved me but there have been some great back and forth btw posters which I like to see.
Here is your game where Brady is out of it at halftime. And as my previous point was never refuted. Brady just lost to Peyton by a decent amount and was out of the game at halftime. Doesn't that disprove your original point right there? http://espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=300110017
there's 1, forgot about that one. So one game in his postseason career where he has been out of it by halftime. Still less than Peyton w/ less talent around him. NE was not out of the game by halftime in the '13 title game. It was 13-3, far from over. if that is the criteria then Peyton has been out of it by halftime in tons of games.
I am sure Seattle would have won but he wouldn't have gone out like Peyton w/o a fight. He and his O have never been held to under 10 pts in a postseason game, last Sunday marked the THIRD time it happened to Peyton and this was the first great D he faced in those games.
please. Brady has led his offense in two of his Super Bowls to 13 points (Rams) and 14 points (Giants). don't act like Brady has never been shut down in a playoff game, he has been shut down twice in the Super Bowl. there is no significant difference between 13 or 10 points when the average losing point total for the Super Bowl loser is 16 points. and he scored only 17 points in another Super Bowl. when you consider that the average winning point total for the Super Bowl winner is 30 points, Brady's Super Bowl performances are overwhelmingly more in line with a losing performance than a winning performance, and just happened to win one of them because his defense shut down the Rams despite the fact the he could only generate 13 points on offense. Denver only scoring 10 points is no different than the 16-0 high powered Patriots only scoring 14 points. Brady was shut down. just because the Patriots defense kept the game close doesn't mean Brady's performance was any better. and if Brady performed comparable against the Seahawks, that game is just as much as a blowout for Seattle. Brady has been a bad Super Bowl QB; you have to ignore his proven Super Bowl performances to make such a ludicrous assertion.
was 1st year starter in the SB they scored 13 pts and led GW drive in that SB led 80 yd TD drive to give team 4 pt lead late in other SB and were either under 10 pts? the average pt total is meaningless b/c there have been so many blowouts but NE won SBs in the non blowout era. Denver scored 8, all 8 came in garbage time. at no point were they competitive, can we say that about any Brady SBs? Seattle would have beaten NE w/o a doubt but they would have competed and done so w/ Julian Edelman as their top target unlike the endless weapons Denver had where Peyton still couldn't get the job done.
