moving the goalposts again....if were going to give a QB extra credit for giving his defense the lead with one stop needed to win....what happened earlier in the game doesn't apply.
I'll do from 1980-present, since I wasn't born before that 1. Joe Montana 1a. Peyton Manning 3. Tom Brady 4. John Elway 5. Kurt Warner 6. Steve Young 7. Dan Marino 8. Aaron Rodgers 9. Drew Brees 10. Brett Favre Guys who just missed out: Aikmen, Cunningham, Moon, Simms, Roethlisberger, Fouts Rodgers could end up top 3 on that list easily.
He started the game and they were losing when he left unlike Joe in the '90 title game who got credit for a loss when he left and SF was winning. we don't have to agree, I think anyone around the league would agree with me. there was a boatload of talent on that team and we saw it again the following season. The Jets beat them b/c Peyton couldn't get a 1st down to get his K closer and settled for a 50 yd attempt thus leaving "crappy" Mark Sanchez too much time. Tebow won a playoff game, peyton did not. Just b/c your weak points are getting roasted doesn't mean I am moving the goalposts. You are bringing up two totally different situations. Brady ledt w/ a lead in XLII after leading his team 80 yds for a TD to take a late lead, peyton was trying to run out the clock and failed and the only reason Baltimore had a chance was b/c of Peyton's mistakes.
You really don't remember that game well. The pick-6 was a blown call by the refs, it should have been called back for interference, the defender got there way before the ball. That play wasn't a QB mistake. Peyton also threw for 290 yards and 3 TDs. That's a better game than Brady had the following week against that same D, that's for sure. Also, Peyton walked off the field with his team having like a win probability of well over 90%. A TD hail mary, I mean come on. The pick in OT was his one real bad mistake, but there should not have been an OT. So many of Peyton's memorable mistakes have come after his team really let him down, the pick-6 against the Saints too, which was probably the worst mistake of his career. Coaching, special teams, and bad D had already blown that game, but he was only down 7 when it happened so I can't give him a pass.
Probably on the "just missed out" list, although I did forget him. I don't think Kelly was better than any of the 10 guys I listed. Maybe Favre only because Favre made so many mistakes and was so error-prone, but he had that stretch in the mid to late 90s where he was so damn good. Kelly was a very good QB on a loaded offense, they were fun to watch.
Young threw 5 passes in that game so no its not even remotely similar to the Loenard Marshall game. And Brady failed all game failing to score enough points for his team to win. He doesn't get extra credit for leaving the field and putting the game in the hands of his defense.
a blown call:rofl2: awesome! he had 3 TDs and 3 TOs. he was given 14 free pts by his STs and STILL couldn't win at HOME. the D blew it on that last drive terrible play but if Peyton doesn't throw a pick 6 or fumble to set up another TD does that play even mean anything? OR if Peyton gets ONE more 1st down Bal doesn't even get the ball back. Then, after it was tied, he had 3 possessions to win it and FAILED. Not only did he fail he threw an INT to set up the GW FG!
he left trailing, Joe left leading. Both got credit for L's. Brady did fail but unlike Manning he wasn't turning it over and throwing pick 6's. HUGE difference.
If you're giving Steve Young blame for a loss he threw 5 passes in because he had to leave the game you need to leave this thread on the count of your own stupidity.
I don't blame him but it's on his record and they weren't going to win had he played or not. the only time he beat Gb he needed a badly blown call to do so.
I mean it was a blown call, but ok, whatever. Denver's D was ranked top 5 that season and had done a number on Baltimore's offense in the first matchup. They did not play to that standard in this game, not even close. I will admit that Peyton made too many mistakes to overcome a bad game by his D. The thing is, the QBs who advance, generally their D doesn't have a terrible game. Teams that advance in the playoffs tend to play well on both sides of the ball. What if Denver's D held Baltimore down like during the regular season? We're not even having this discussion right now as Denver wins in an easy blowout and Peyton gets credited for a really solid 3 TD performance.
It was not a blown call, it was a terrible decision. Maybe if their QB hadn't been turning it over left and right the D would have played better? The O was given 14 pts by STs, are you serious? peyton gets 14 free pts and still cannot win at home? a pick 6, a fumble that led to a TD and an INT that set up the GW FG. That was the difference in the game, anyone of those first 2 plays don't happen and Den wins, if the last one doesn't happen den has a chance. absolutely, much like Peyton you can't trust Steve Young in a big game. GB dominated Young in those days.
um you just admitted Young's presence didn't matter in that Green Bay game...meaning the Packers were the better team regardless of Young playing or not. Losing to a better team on the road isn't "choking" goalposts moving again. Its now gone from expected to win to big game to it doesn't matter of the player plays he's still a choker.
I never saw Babe Ruth play either or Johnny Unitas. I know how great they were. Educate yourself on the history of the game, ask Cakes. I would say no one knows the history of the NFL better on this site(along w/ Murrell).
