Apparently. Somehow for 3 straight years, Montana lost his "magical clutch ability" and led his team to 30 points combined in 3 straight playoff losses. Or maybe, just maybe, his team was overmatched in those games and his performance suffered as a result? So I read somewhere that football is a team sport, that the QB only plays in 1 of 3 phases, and that the QB can only control so many variable even in the 1 phase he plays in. Crazy stuff. Just crazy.
I guess I just don't see that happening. Manning will be 38 before next season. Brady will be 37 before next season.
of course, everything I post is my opinion. They are well educated opinions but still just opinions. they won 10 games in 2010 with Peyton, why would they have won 12 in 2011? but they were 7-4 and they won a playoff game, something Peyton was unable to do in 2012. a few games is an aberration, for Peyton it is the norm to have bad games to end seasons. That wasn't the case for Joe, that's not the case overall for Brady.
wins/losses are meaningless numbers? When Peyton wins the SB, but his numbers aren't up to snuff for NYJUNC then those "meaningless numbers" become meaningful? You move the goalposts too much. You like Brady and Montana..we get it. They were all time greats. You magnify other great QB's losses to prop up guys that don't need to be propped up. Honestly the difference between Aikman's 3 to Young's 1 doesn't mean a hell of a lot to me. I watched both of them play and I don't need "meaningless" numbers to tell my eyes who was the better QB.
At least the numbers we cite correlate to the actual player's performance. The only thing you cite is team statistics (wins/losses) as be-all end-all. Wilson is 4-1 now in the playoffs, and by far his best playoff performance came in the one loss. Let that roll around in your head for a bit because it goes against this entire thread and everything you preach. Winning this SB did not make Wilson a great player, he already was.
Let's list our TOP 5 QUARTERBACKS OF ALL TIME: 1. Joe Montana 2. Peyton Manning 3. Johnny Unitas 4. John Elway 5. Tom Brady
Anyone who would take Aikmen over Young just doesn't understand how to evaluate the position, Young was a much better player with a greater skillset and continually stronger individual performances. Aikmen was more of a Phil Simms type, nothing wrong with that, but the way Young played the position was transcendent.
No one said that QB exists. However, repeatedly stinking it up in the playoffs as favorites puts a blemish on the résumé in question. Peyton and Brady will both go down as elite regular season QBs. As far as Aikman vs. Young, Young was clearly the better QB.
you know Peyton is under. 500, right? Young is just 8-6 Favre just 13-11 Aikman 11-5 Brady 18-8 Montana 16-7(w/ one of the losses he left w/ a lead that SF ultimately lost) notice any differences? I don't move any goalposts, I want a guy to step up not step back. I don't hold it against marino that he didn't win b/c he didn't have the talent around him but Manning, Young and Favre sure did.
Stinking it up is all relative though...we hold Peyton to a higher standard than anyone. Clearly the Seahawks game was a disaster...but Denver had no business being the favorite anyways. He played well enough to win in the Bmore game. Early in his career he struggled a bit and Belichick had his number(another HOF'er)
Young was the better #s QB, that's different. 1. Joe Montana 2. Otto Graham 3. John Unitas 4. Tom Brady 5. Dan Marino
They were 13-3 w/ the highest scoring O in history, they were worthy favorites. They just got outplayed. He played well enough against Baltimore? he was given 14 free pts by STs, he had 3 TOs that DIRECTLY led to 17 pts in a 3 pt loss in 2 OTs including the INT that set up the GW FG for Baltimore. That's well enough? he single handedly kept Baltimore in it and gave them the win
He left the field with a minute left giving his defense the lead and his defense choked it away....(isn't this how junc logic works)
he was 8-6 including a gift in 1998 as the game should have been over after a Rice fumble but they called him down and SF went on to win.
I'd buy that if he wasn't given 14 pts by STs and didn't throw an INT for a TD. Show me where Brady did that and I'll concede the point.
Plenty of people on this board have well educated opinions. To say something like they quit though is total speculation and sounds like something your just saying to back up your argument. I said most likely. Probably anywhere from 10-12 wins to be fair. It's not unrealistic to think Peyton could win 12 games. They also won their division in 2010 as well and almost beat the Jets had it not been for a great return by Cro. Peyton made it to the same round in 2012 as Tebow did in 2011.... I'll take Peyton's 2012 Broncos over the 2011 Steelers team that Tebow beat.
