    From Morningwood:
"Michael is a quality player as you know. At one time he was one of the great dynamic players in this game. And then when I got him several years later, he became a fine, fine quarterback on top of being a dynamic player. Now I believe he's 33, and what great depth we have at quarterback, in Geno, a young rookie who was progressing just beautifully toward the end of the year, and then we add Mike, who's been there, done that, and will compete and push and try to do his best to make Geno the very best. When called upon, I know that Mike can go in and play at a high level. And you've got Matt Simms, of course, a young, quite talented player who's progressing just beautifully within the system."

Should find an interview from some former WVU teammates. I'm sure they'll put their money on Geno.

I just don't see the value in putting a guy out there if he's going to get hurt in three games. Let Geno start (unless Vick massively outplays him) and bring Vick in if Geno bombs.

McCoy isn't just sticking up for his friend, he's also exactly right.

Technically, Vick IS way better than Geno. He's a seasoned vet and has numerous years in the same system under the same OC. Geno is still a 2nd year guy and in his first year was a bottom of the league QB. If Geno beats out Vick for the starting job, it will speak volumes about Geno's ability and improvement, but right now you have to give it to Vick until Geno proves otherwise. Vick was a top QB in the league just a few years ago. Yeah, Geno's the future and Vick is the past, but at this point in their careers Vick is the way better choice.

He is right but didnt he say the same things last year about Vick over Foles. The whole idea of Geno starting is on the idea of him improving this offseason. Geno from last year doesnt start over Vick.

At the end of camp who ever is the best Qb and gives the New York Jets the best chance to win, should be the starter. I am rooting for Geno. A lot can happen between first day of camp and first game of the regular season. Let the best man win.

Side note: I think Geno handles New York well, he is younger, I think he is faster and stronger, he has continuity with the returning members of the offense already; but Vick obviously has experience and special talent that may not all be weathered yet.

Experienced player endorsed over rookie by former team-mate shock.

I don't think experienced player versus rookie (which Geno is no longer) has much to do with it.

It's pretty much about former teammate and friends. That's not a shock at all.

At this point I would put my money on Vick's chances, but there is some possibility that Smith can come into camp and show significant off season improvement. I don't rule that out , ftr.

But I think it unlikely that he will show significant improvement.

That being the case I expect a fair competition would lead to Vick starting.

I think that if at the end of TC Geno and Michael are fairly close then Geno gets the edge. If the gap is wider and Michael is the clear winner then the choice is obvious. It's a refreshing change from last years options.

And who cares what McCoy thinks anyway? He's seen less of Geno than any of us have. It's not like they were college teammates.

How could you possibly know how much Geno film McCoy has seen?

You just spent years trashing the Jets' QB. Now you don't care who plays QB?

We both know you won't answer that question, because your programmers didn't think that far ahead.

The way I see it, we gotta stop trying to find short term solutions and focus on the long term. In other words, we need to find a quality young quarterback to helm the team for many years to come. Because of that, Geno should be the starter at the start of the season, and be given a chance to show he has improved from last year. If however, he hasn't, then we can put in Vick somewhere during the season if we are competing for a playoff spot, but that of course means Geno is pretty much done, and we should get other young prospects in.

im not even ready to say Vick at this point is better than Geno. Vick was a turnover machine last few years and stayed hurt with a good offense, and got his spot taken eventually. GEno was a rook with a piece of shit roster around him on offense. Vick is a long time vet now so he has no excuse to be making all those mistakes. Plus if Vick was "Way Better" AT THIS POINT...there would be no QB controversy it would be a given. But no, its Geno's job to lose. And i bet they have a tight QB Comp in training camp (Which should give Geno the go ahead). Lets compare Vicks rookie year passing wise to Geno's if u wanna be fair. Not saying Geno's rookie season was better but i think thats a more accurate assessment.

I agree. Sometimes I think what the Jets could do if we had Chad Pennington in his prime as QB with Rex as HC. All we need is a consistent top 10 offense every year just to put is into the playoffs.
