That is funny because the last 3 movies I enjoyed (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Hateful 8, The Revenant) are all so different. Not sure what my taste is. I would say quality films. I will say I can see why people do not like The Revenant. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea. It is a brutal film.
I guess "taste in movies" is probably a poor choice of words. More like the way you go total fanboy over movies that aren't quite as amazing as you make them out to be.
Ouch, that is actually a fair point. Someone tells you this is great, that is great, this is great too, you see one and see it is not great to you. Can't trust the guy telling you it is great anymore. Off Topic: I think Kate Winslet is still gorgeous. Do you agree with that?
I thought Spectre was terrible, had high hopes for that one. Revenant is not for everyone, I probably wont rewatch it again...Its one of those watch once and experience the survival and retribution story but too dark. I like Leo's performances and he shined in this one.
Personally, in its totality, I found Steve Jobs more riveting than The Revenant. I posted this in another thread but you all need to consider what the academy considers too. Performance in the film is not the only measure for them to determine award winners. Leo's preparation and approach to the role went extreme for this performance. The academy has to consider this strongly. So considering the preparation, performance, and hardships the crew endured while filming in extreme temperatures, I think Leo, at least, has this locked up. Of course all of above is being said independent of the notion that the academy loves giving culmination awards. Meaning, here's a best actor award for a role that really wasn't worthy of the award alone, we are considering your career in its totality for this singular award.
Need to watch Steve Jobs...I just watched the documentary they had on CNN, The Man in the Machine a couple nights ago. Directed by the great Alex Gibney. Although a visionary, man had some serious issues
Merit hardly matters when it comes to the academy. It's all about the story they want to tell with the awards. It's a self-branding production.
yes. which is why that actor in that silly movie about becoming transgender has a serious chance at beating out DiCaprio. The "Danish Boy" or "Danish Girl" something like that. They saw how much notoriety the ESPYs to Bruce Jenner brought, they'll be thinking about that. Also- giving recognition to a man's man movie about a badass surviving a bear attack vs. an artful, sentimental piece about a crossdresser? no contest there as far as the type of movie the academy would prefer be recognized. hint- its not the bad ass man's movie
I admit. I owe DiCaprio. Back in the day, when I was in college, I took 3 separate chicks to Titanic. The movie was such a hit, it stayed on theaters for 2 months. Anyway, at the end of each Titanic movie, I got lucky. Not sure why. Girls must be dreaming they were having sex with DiCaprio. bad for them. Good for me. Those were good old days.
It is estimated it took 2 hours and 40 minutes for the titanic to sink after it hit the iceberg. In other words, 2 hours and 37 minutes longer than you lasted with those college girls
