Leonard doesn’t get it. He said we want 30 sacks a game. Talk about hyperbole. Of course we don’t want that much or even 10 sacks a season but how about even 7 a year? He was drafted 6th, which of course he can’t control but he was heralded as the best player in that draft. I’ve been saying he isn’t worth the money he is going to ask for. He is a pretty good nfl player but certainly didn’t live up to the early 1st round hype. He is a decent defensive tackle/end that shouldn’t be worth more than $10MM/year. We have a lot of needs to fill next year so unless things change, I assume it’s best to move on from him.
Leo says fans "only see the stat line and things like that", that's not true. Many plays I watch him and he's nowhere near the difference-maker he needs to be for this team. In year 5 I think the sample size is big enough to realize the player he is. Above average at his job, strong against the run, durable, good teammate - all true. But he's not worth the $14.2 million he's getting paid this year and not a guy I want them giving a mega contract to in hopes that he becomes the player we thought he'd be when he was drafted...
I've never seen a player dive to avoid contact more than this clown. Leonard Williams quickly became one of my most hated Jets.
I cannot say one way or the other whether this is true for Leonard, but there are certain player/ personality types who go all out no matter what. Ultra competitive. You never question their effort or desire. I put Adams in that camp Then there are others who may play their butts off when winning but when they feel things are a bit of a lost cause (or at least more likely to lose than win) they let up or sometimes, save themselves, etc. I put Trumaine in this camp Leonard is still an enigma. I don't think fans are necessarily hypnotized by sacks but they are looking for disruption especially with his draft status and accolades. I think the better teams in the league are looking for that competitive spirit (and smarts) as much or more so that 40 yard time, or Bench reps
This^^^. Sacks are great and I know it’s a small sample size but so far thru 2 games his stat line is 0 sacks, 0 forced fumbles & 0 tackles. How about at least getting a tackle Leonard?
Goes to show how worthless defensive rookie of the year awards are. As is a executive of the year award without any hardware to back it up.
Should have locked up Snacks and let Wilkerson walk, played Sheldon at his position and see what happens...
What worries me is that if they end up getting rid of him, the team is going to use that as an excuse to raise defensive lineman to the top of draft priorities again.
