haha. maybe 'Brick can just eat with Mangini for a few weeks; that'll help him add some poundage. as for Washington, i'm psyched about his play. like the others said, it's still too early to annoint him RB of the future, but if he continues to play like this, we'll have a lot of flexibility heading into April. i also like the idea (that someone mentioned) of gauging him in the NE and Chicago games -- those will be real tests, and if he performs well, then it'll say a lot about him. cheers
NO the real question is where are you going. Facts are you beat The Titans, bills, Dolphins and Lions.(not exactly powerhouses) Afc East is really down and you have a very soft schedule. you are a five win team at best talent wise. you have one of the worst defenses in all of football and your offense more a product of teams you played.(see jaguars exposing your offense big time). You have a QB C Pennington that not going to take this team to an championships(will have to be another QB). What all this does is Make Jets fan base expectations go up tremendously next season. Good Luck. What do I have . Well to start the fifth rated defense in football(one of the youngest defenses)and a very young team on the offensive side too. This year I was able to groom hopefully my QB of future Andrew Walter(Kid coming on). SO Lets see Raiders possible have their QB of future(let him go through growing pains), One of the best defenses that only going to better with time ,and about forty million dollars to play with in Freeagency next year. Just watch what AL davis can do with that much cash. Not to mention a very high pick that could be the finally pieces. Raiders were never about 2006 as it all about 2007. Watch how the Raiders play down the stretch and you will know what im talking about.
lol.. Kerry Rhodes calling him a "young guy." Like Rhodes is a 10-year veteran or something. I dont have the numbers here, but I bet they are very close in age, if not the same.
Your coach sucks. sure its not about 06 cuz that final draft piece will be acquired next yr right? THE WORLD TRADE CENTER WILL BE REBUILT BEFORE THE RAIDERS!!!!!
Last year you said it's all about a 2006 playoff run, and the Raiders will beat the Jets. This year it's all about a 2007 playoff run, and the Raiders will beat the Jets. Maybe your playoff run will actually coincide with the presidential run of '08. But we'll save that one for next year.
so wait... Pennginton isn't a Championship-caliber QB, but you imply that Walter eventually is. that tells me everything i need to know about your perception right there. having cash to throw around in FA, doesn't mean a thing. the 'Skins exemplify this year after year. not only do they go get Randel El and Lloyd, but they also hire one of the best coaching staffs ever concocted, and still they remain at the bottom of their Division. despite the ranking, it's not like your D is carrying the team the way Baltimore and Denver's D's carry them. so please, spare me the top-ranked D schpeal. if you wanna talk about draft picks, we have 3 in the first two rounds, one R2 pick that looks better and better each week with the Redskins' downward spiral. the Jets weren't really about 2006 either -- many of us know that the push will be '07, '08, '09. but it looks like we may have an outisde Playoff chance in '06. i'm fine with that, considering we were supposed to be a 4-6 win team this year. actually, i'm more than fine with that, because i enjoy seeing my team with a possibility of making the Postseason more than soiling my pants at the thought of a higher draft pick. cheers
First we hear this... Then we get this... The phrase "what are you smoking" was directly derived from boneheaded posts like this. I'll eat a whole box of industrial nails the day that A. Walter (QB, 24, 6-6, 230) gets even marginally closer than C Pennington (QB, 30, 6-3, 225) to bringing home a championship. And I don't mean by eventually being 3rd string clipboard holder, or team water boy, or jock strap cleaner. I'm talking about on the field leading his team to a championship. The fact you can completely dismiss Pennington's ability and play, yet imagine a trumped up future for your current merry-go-round at QB is disturbing and ludicrous at the same time.
NO when you grooming your QB of the future (A walter) Your going to go through growing pains. What was Peyton manning record his first year. (not making any comparisons but just stating what happens when you go with first year QB). NOw IF raiders had a veteran QB steve MCNair(For arguments sake) than expectations might have been diffrent for 2006. Understand the point. Lets see Raiders stay relatively quiet in FA this year(clean up alot of dead cap money) andf have youngest team on both sides of ball. SO about forty million dollarsto play with in freeagency, high draft choices and got their QB up to sppeed with the NFl game. Yes 2007 they will be serious contenders not only playoffs, but for the title. Again watch how the raiders play in the second half and you will understand where im coming from.
The Raiders went out and signed Aaron Brooks and made him the starter. It was ALL about 2006 going into the season. One game in, Brooks got hurt and suddenly it's time to rebuild again? What's this, year 4 of the rebuilding process? This was the plan all along? OK, jeaux, you win.
im very careful to point out someone and say oo their going to be great when i have only seen them play a few games. I will say this though.. I have never seen a player make cuts the way washington does.
First off have to hand it to CHad Pennnington. Hes the main reason why a five win talent team, is in position its in now. Could Possible sneak into playoffs. With that said, he not good enough to lead a team to a championship. Very good defenses Like 2002 Raiders ,and like the Jaguars this year, exposed him big time. Guy has some serious limitations. Yes Maybe you could say Penningtron could lead the Jets to a championship, if they had a championship defense. Jets are so far from having a championship defense that Pennington not going to be around when they do. Also C Pennington has yet to play a full seaason in The NFL. He has ten more gamers and you really see him not breaking down at some point. Last point on Pennington you really see Mangini wasting a second round pick on a QB(clemens) if he didn't see him being his starter in very near future. Andrew Walter every one that has seen this kid play has come away impressed with him. The Kid improves every week. Ask any Pacten coach how good a Qb this Walter is. Time will tell with Walter, but we have seen enough of Pennington to know he not leading any team to a championship.
YES A Brooks was suppose to be the one year bridge to Andrew Walter. When Brooks got hurt, you have to say the expections changed for 2006. What Qb outside of Big Ben came in(BIg Ben his first year was asked not to lose game) has not experience some serious growing pains. Do you remember what Peyton manning record was his first year. Just say Pennington lost for year this week. you don't think your fortunes or expectations would possible change. I Can't understand why your having so much trouble comprehending the concept.
Because there is a lot more wrong with your team than the QB. Even with Brooks, you weren't going anywhere. You're lucky Brooks got hurt, it bought you another year of excuses.
Penny can't lead a team to a championship? He almost did that and more in 04', with a torn rotator cuff. He's a warrior. We went into Pittsburgh, against the 15-1 Steelers, and lost the game due to 1 reason, Doug Brien. If it weren't for Brien, the Jets would've been in the AFC title game and I'm sure Pennington would've put on another gutsy performance. He's a team leader. If you look at the stats, there's almost no QB's who mave more of a field presence than Chad. When Chad plays, the Jets are a better team, and they rally around him. I would feel confident in Pennington in a superbowl, no doubt.
