You all are falling into the preseason trap. TJ hasn't lost a damn step. It's the preseason! The Indianapolis Colts suck ass every single preseason...and what happens in the regular season? The F'n Pats are 0-3 and the Redskins were 3-0 (prior to tonights game). Thomas Jones is fine...stop following the preseason so closely because it is nothing but misleading.
tj isnt even getting very many carries, i think this has to do with the cs not wanting him to get injured because they do not feel lw can be the feature back. you all just lose too much faith too quickly, dont forget the guy got 1100 yards with a shit line last year with 8 in the box most of the plays for half the season. im sure he will be fine.
Buttle made a good point on thr game tonight. When Leon is in, the D has to respect the screen pass. When TJ is in, they almost are certain it is a run.
I'm not sure I disagree with the statement but if you are basing this off preseason results what exactly has Leon done that proves he is better then T Jones? Neither one of them are able to run the ball and that is a product of the run blocking.
This is why the depth is good. Chatman and Smith have both started in this league and done decent, Chatman better yet behind a porous Miami line last year. Leon would be good as a spot starter, but you run the risk of wearing him out with a full season of starting.
Hemi, what you call "depth," to most non-Jets fans, is "one of the worst groups of running backs in the league." Washington is the only guy the Jets have that puts any fear into the defense at all.
I wish the Giants would cut Ward (who they got from us to begin with). I still think he is their best back and would be great for us if we could get him back.
he can't block, he can't run between the tackles consistently, and he's not the guy you want on a 3rd and goal situation at the 1 yd line.
People are saying that Leon cannot run between the tackles, which completely baffles me. Unless my eyes deceive me, I seem to notice Leon squirting through holes consistently while Jones never does.
As much as it pains me to say, leon's blocking is below average at best. Until he can improve to the point where the coach is confident that the QB won't get killed, he will never be a feature back.
I disagree. Jones hasn't been stellar himself, and Washington gives much more explosiveness to the offense in the run and passing game. Maybe Washington shouldn't just be handed an every down back role, but he SHOULD be the feature back.
He may be better than TJ---but he is not a feature back. Use him like that and he will be shot by Game 10.
If Leon is better than Jones than why not feature him? How are we to know that he can't handle the load if they don't try?
If you guys are going by these pre-season games, the OL is not opening any holes for the RBs to speak of. So far they got no push. Their pass blocking on the other hand is pretty good. It won't help them though when the regular season gets here and the D discovers they all still have one hand tied behind them.
Last year when Miller went down Leon had a huge responsability on special teams. We may again have the same problem. Its pretty clear that we have been bringing running backs in by the bushel basket this training camp so my guess is they aren't thrilled with the lack of depth and maybe even TJ.
If you are talking about Ward, he averaged 4.8 ypc on 125 attempts when the rest of the Giants got hurt last year. Jones can't even be considered in the same conversation. I'll take Ward over Jones any day of the week. And he would barely cost the league minimum. He is stronger, faster and can see a hole when it is staring him in the face.
