Due to the rehab he also could come back stronger and faster. There is a trend for young pitchers to want to get Tommy Johns surgery, but the Docs say the only reason that pitchers comeback throwing harder is because of their dedication to the rehab. I realize this is much different, but- hey you never know.
Maybe package Leon with a bunch of picks to move up and grab one of the premier DT's up there in round one? I'm worried about Kris. Call me a loon....
Leon has yet to have a season with 1000 yards rushing/receiving. He has 15 career TD's and 11 career fumbles. He's a good player, and he's valuable on ST but he's not nearly as good as some fans make him out to be. Also keep in mind, every guy we've plugged in at KR/PR has done well over the last 10 years. Justin Miller and Chad Morton were also amazing return men for us and those guys are garbage.
Leon's carries would not allow for a 1000 yards, just last year he would've gotten his chance. His AVG is much more important- 2006- 4.3, 151 attempts 2007- 5.0, 71 attempts 2008- 5.9, 76 attempts 2009- 4.6, 72 attempts
I just wanna see us package him for a few mid round picks. Any 2 picks between 3rd and 5th round between this year and next and im happy as long as at least one of them is a 4th or better.
First of all, Leons YPC was only about .5 better than TJ over the last 3 years. That is to be expected when you are a third down back and don't get worn down with 25 carries a game. Thomas Jones has been much more important to our team. In 48 games with the Jets Jones had 4,315 yards, 31 TD and 6 fumbles. In 55 games with the Jets Leon had 2,751 yards, 15 TD and 11 fumbles. Leon - 50 ypg, 1 TD/4 games 1 Fumble/5 games Jones -90 ypg, 2TD/3 games 1 Fumble/8 games Leon was a great ST player, I will give him that, but he has not been nearly as important to this team as Jones.
That I can agree with, not so much about the notion that he could have been out of football. IMO, atrophy would be the main culprit for the loss of speed, assuming there isn't any ligament or major muscle damage slowing his rehab down.
With your inside source, right? Unless he gets hurt again, there's no reason to suspect this injury is enough to decide that he can't play the entire season. There's nothing that's been reported anywhere near that. He might miss the start of the season, and he probably won't be 100%, but I expect him to be on the field this season for sure.
The difference is I have an opinion, a dark one that is sick and tired of the bullshit put forth by LW's people and the idea that he comes back stronger from a pretty nasty injury, and I don't act like i have inside info. I too think he'll miss some time. Fuck Alvin Keels.
Yes, and that pretty much is what Tannenbaum really said. He said we expect him to be here but who knows if the phone rings. That is not a vote of confidence. He is probably hoping for a better offer than a 6th. ""I spoke to Leon this morning," Tannenbaum said. "We sure do [expect him to play for the Jets this season]. We're excited to have him back. You never know what would happen if the phone should ring, but our expectations are that he'll be here." http://www.newyorkjets.com/blog/posts/1591-leon-returns-feels-the-love-signs-tender
There's no way he doesn't miss time. He just said that he should be back by the start of the regular season, and hopefully Training Camp.
After the Jets offered a fair contract to Leon last year he put his nose up and now his nose has been rubbed in it. He will play the 2010 season for between 1/3 to 1/2 of what he turned down a year ago. I like the guy but he out priced himself and the injury made his price plummet. Like anything else the supply and demand factor sets the price.
be that as it may, he was never worth $5million, and any offer at $2 million or more for a 3rd RB and KR was fair, so if he turned such a contract down what he said still applies IMO.
Leon is set to make approximately 1.8mil for 2010. That is not 'between 1/3 to 1/2 of what he turned down a year ago', if he was offered 2.7mil (latest and apparently most accurate rumored amount - Jetsblog) or even 3mil a year ago. That was the part of the post I took issue with, and it does not apply. I agree that he outpriced himself. Leon gambled and lost. I've never said anything to the contrary.
Why would anybody fault him for trying to get the best deal he could for himself and his family? Yes, he could have accepted the offer but he chose not to. That was his choice. Turns out he got hurt and his present & future value as diminished as a result. Thats part of the business too. In hindsight he chose wrong. But if he hadn't gotten hurt who knows - he could have won the AFC Championship game and the SB and we'd all be saying how smart he was to say no deal. Its just bidness.
I'd much prefer Leon Washington be a part of this team and return to form. The 2nd round pick would be sufficient compensation though, this is good news.
