Mangini wasn't there, the Jets were represented by Bradway and JoJo Wooden. Don't read much into it though as they will all be out there to see him during a personal workout on 4/17....
Wow,what a brilliant, insightful point!Someone should immediately tell the NFL that the combine and all workouts are pointless and without any merit whatsoever!
The same Cutler who didn't win anything in college? The same Cutler that was considered a late 1st or early 2nd rounder until the Senior Bowl? The same Cutler that didn't have numbers that even start to compare to those of the other top prospects in this draft? The same Cutler who instead of taking responsibility for his play (like DeAngelo Williams) uses the lack of talent around him as an excuse as to why he didn't play well? Please... This guy is so over-hyped it's unbelievable. Leinart and Young are worlds ahead of him as far as being football players goes..
How is that a red flag? The guy won a national championship and was damn close to winning it again this year... He can play under pressure... Maybe not a smart choice of words for him, but he's proved he can perform when he needs to..
So he pressed and missed a few throws in a workout that by every account I've heard was pretty good. I'm sorry, but I don't think a few throws in one workout show how he handles pressure more than his body of work throughout his college career in actual games. You are correct that it is all a guessing game. I will say, however, that after a guy has proven himself time and again for three years that he can handle being the biggest sports star (possibly second behind Kobe) in the nation's second largest media market while in college and has constantly thrived under the scrutiny of big games, to hit the panic button because he missed a few throws in a workout when he otherwise did quite well is overanalyzing to me at least. Cutler pressed in an actual game on national television at the Senior Bowl, playing poorly and forcing a number of throws. I don't find that to be an indictment of his play under pressure, but if you're going to argue that yesterday's results were significant, I'd at least find that to be somewhat more telling than Leinart's workout yesterday.
The combine is pointless! It's a whole different ball game when you out there with pads on and have to worry about 10 other people. There are people who suck in the combines but put them on a football field they look like two different people.
