I hope you are right, and tend to think you are. Mehta is a complete hack. If we do actually have a leak, and/or dissension in our FO, that would be a much bigger problem. If any leaks are found, they should be promptly dismissed.
There haven't been very many leaks in recent months and notably Rex has been quiet and he's toting the company line. Based on the past my guess is the leaks are starting with him. And not a great way to work with your GM. But if coming from people in the org then they are the ones who have to go. Idzik is slow though. Look at the Mark Sanchez situation. Now that's pretty slow to not have made a decision yet on Sanchez yet. Even though other Qbs in the NFL like Schaub the same thing goes. He did cut Cro and Tone pretty fast (allowing both of them to make new deals). We'll see what happens but MM has his own opinion and uses his column etc. to push it.
Free agency isn't over. There are plenty of depth signings that can be made. I understand the apprehension, but I also understand the reasoning in play. Idzik's not just looking to make the playoffs this year, he's trying to put the team in a situation where they can be competitive for years to come.
I dig..too many holes for an expensive 3,4 year solution jus at one position.. Probably still wouldnt go anywhere ... Ima just wait for this "draft splash" that im counting on. Cook on Idzik... Cook on ..
He has no control where players go once their rookie deals are up and that's why the notion of putting the team in a situation to be competitive for years is no longer valid. They will go where the money is or where they think they can win a ring or whatever other reason they may have to leave NY.
Jets Employee: Hey get Idzik in here,DRC is on the phone where is John Idzik? We must be a very special team if all other teams with cap space even those with bad cap situations are signing guys left and right.Idzik must be a special person with a special plan,or more realisticly just not a good gm
I call bullshit on this canard that I or anyone else here just wants to spend money with no purpose. Obviously the Jets got Decker, which I am on record as thinking it is a good move (as long as they get one other starting quality wideout; otherwise the move is wasted,at least for 2014), who ftr this time last year you would not have called a better player than Holmes. He isn't signing big names with large price tags. Nor is he signing small names with small price tags who could have helped, either. I love how Idzik gets credit for the fact that the third round pick last draft became a starter. Yeah, arguably the worst on the team, and that resulted from VD being his only competition, and playing like a penalty machine. Idzik should have kept Slauson. You don't call Slauson a big name with a big price, do you? The cheap guys Idzik signed last year were all explained at the time has him being forced to do because the Jets had no cap space. THe only one who outperformed expectations was Ivory. The others were and remain a rather mediocre bunch of underperformers, some of whom can't get on the field. I agree the Jets are rebuilding, and do not expect them to contend in 2014. That leaves two other points. Almost made the playoffs in 2014. Heh. 12 games in the Jets were 5-7. They finished 8-8, normally not close to a playoff record, and only was close because of AFC mediocrity below the top teams. They had to finish 3-1 to get there, and did so thanks to totally inept coaching by Oakland (take your starting Qb out of the game for no apparent reason, then put him back in???), an expected loss to a real playoff team in Carolina, and two AFC lightweights who gave up on their seasons. Color me unimpressed. Smith improving. Once again, I do not believe it is impossible for Smith to become an average NFL starting Qb. But I think it very unlikely. In one season, if ever. Hard work? I don't know anything about that, but I've heard that other NFL Qb's work hard, too. I just don't see how you can count on Smith improving that much. Marginal improvement can be expected, but that might take him from 31st to 27th or so.
Given the state of the CB market last year vs what went down this year I don't think you could accuse somebody of being misleading during the free tampering window. The average CB last year got $5M and the average CB this year got $8M+. So if the Jets were indicating interest based on last year's market and then decided to back away from the price point this year that's very understandable.
Lol.. Dude idk anymore.. Thats what everybody #onhere keeps saying so im just gonna run with it. I'd rather use make an additional move or two also bc i think this team is better than "rebuilding mode" but the draft approach is safer and cheaper we'll just be mediocre or average for a few more years til all of our draft picks start to Pan out and gain experience. We'll be respectable again by 2017-18 . We just gotta wait it out unfortunately .. It is what it is
It's likely some of the teams you're speaking of are putting themselves in Cap Hell to "go for it" in the short term. Considering where Tanny left us, it's amazing you'd consider that an appealing alternative to what Idzik is doing.
Well if he liked Darrelle Revis or Mike Tannenbaum he's going to complain right up to the moment the Jets make the playoffs, right?
I suppose everything would make much more sense if the Jets draft one of the top 3 QBs in the first round of the draft. Then they would be starting over (again).
Idzik signed a big name in Decker and signed another guy to fill a need in Giacomini. At some point I think he will take a flyer on a stop gap (Carlos Rogers) but we have a bunch of young cb's that could develop into solid starters. Rebuilding is seeing what you have in those types of players. Another guy I forgot to mention was DeMario Davis who was an unknown, he stepped up and was pretty solid. Idzik has spent money this offseason resigning Nelson, Folk and Cumberland. He went out and signed Decker. I don't know what more signing you want Idzik.
If there are leaks and negative comments about Idzik coming from people in the organization (and we were hearing about Rex's frustration at not signing DRC) it might signal a true rift between Idzik and Rex. I was starting to believe they could work with each other. Rex worked well with Tanny after they fired Eric and RR on the surface looks like a very affable guy and a people person. That goes for Idzik. Both of them have sons playing as backup receivers on NCAAF teams and Idzik backed Rex up last year when he went to see a Clemson game after he got some criticism for leaving the team (I think it was in Sept when there were final cuts). The facts are that Rex always wants to use his higher draft picks and spend cap money on defense. When the team desperately needs help on offense. So to me Idzik has to stand up to this and say NO. And try to plug weaknesses which are mostly on offense. No doubt they will sign a veteran corner though, but not Rogers-Cromartie who has not been a consistent player in his career.
I think with everyone having so much space this year it hurt Idzik who doesnt want to break the bank for any 1 or 2 players. Instead next year when a lot of teams are struggling to stay under the cap and we have all this room and hopefully a better core we can make moves. Even with our space this year we werent becoming a superbowl contender. It will take Idzik a few years to build the team he wants and year 2 in march is too early to judge him. Frustrating for entertainment values for next season but hopefully it pays off in the end.
This is NY, you don't get a few years and the media will make sure of it just as they did with Tannenbaum..and if they decide to turn on Ryan again he will be gone too.
Not true. Everyone gets a few years. No matter what happens Idzik wont be fired at the end of this year. You give the media too much credit. Tannenbaum got himself fired with horrible contracts and the Tebow trade.
