Was signing DRC really gonna bring another super bowl? this is all about him right? not paying more to sign him specifically is the problem? It can't be about anybody else, because others were never really on the jets radar to begin with, we just really wanted the to be after some media speculation. I'm no that concerned he stuck to his guns by not overpaying for him, he wasn't gonna bring us over the hump. there will be others, and we need to stop being so insecure about not spending more than we wanted to on any given player.
We are one week into free agency guys. Let's chill a bit on Idzik. With that said, I'm def a bit disappointed he let DRC walk to the Giants at what I thought was a perfectly fair deal. If he doesn't sign Cromartie, we are now dangerously thin at CB.
Oh please, enlighten me where you are reading he is lazy? Give me a fuckin break. This thread is such bullshit.
Are we really quoting andf running with beat writers? Give me a break que the end of season locker room when rex retains. Lets all take a deep breathe
Yeah, we are one week in and who is left that would be a marked improvement over what we already have?
agreed. people moan about the decker signing - who did they expect us to sign AJ Green and Megatron? Last time I looked Decker was the best WR in this FA class. people moan about the lack of a CB signing, which is an issue, as though we are the only team looking to sign players and with cap space - news flash - most teams have plenty of cap space or can create it and a need at CB - the DRC signing by the Giants was poor - so much guaranteed money for a player that said he was going to retire and who has been called out many times for a lack of effort? I would have liked to have signed some of the other FAs out there but its not all about the Jets and isnt over yet - plus last time I looked we had invest 2 first round picks on CBs that are still on the team. people moan about Howard going - he got overpaid and we replaced him with a broadly equivalent player - cant get too excited about that sorry.
to be fair those are just BS reports for manish meta or how ever you spell it... i think he just takes chances and guesses who they might target and if he hits it he looks like a genius with all the inside info and if he misses he can just blame idzik for not getting the deal done..when we brought in decker he had no idea they were interested there was a report someone saw him at newark airport....hes really been wrong on anything and i think that has to do with idzik being very close to the vest.
Well both Cimini and Mehta, granted that both are tools of the trade, say there is a lot of unhappiness with Idzik within the Jets over how he is handeling his job. Mehta probably makes it up as he goes but Cimini never seems to downright lie and this is what he wrote last night. "Idzik's lack of aggressiveness has fueled frustration at One Jets Drive, a potentially troubling issue that outweighs what the fans or media think. Ryan wasn't happy about losing Rodgers-Cromartie, and he wasn't the only one. The feeling is understandable. "I'm not sure if it's stupidity or calculated," a person familiar with Ryan's thinking said. "But neither helps the Jets." http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/je...ack?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
I feel bad for the people who think Idzik has this "master plan" in place, this guys a joke and will be on the hot seat if we fail this season. It wouldn't surprise me if he was fired if we had a really bad year. Its becoming clear that he is a choke artist and not a great gm,he has totally dropped the ball
Overrated free agents?I love how every single free agent this year is "overrated" or "overpaid" this way of thinking is ridiculous. There were a lot of young proven guys available that could have made a big impact and been here for years down road
Golden Tate,Alteran Verner,Revis (not young but coulda made impact),Jarius Bryd,Sanders,Donte Whitner.Just one of those guys would have made us better
How do you know their production for the 2014 season? Those guys are getting paid for the future, not the past. Over half of the top free agents from last season all turned out to be complete mistakes.
And conversely how do you know they won't, half of all the free agents from last year turned out to be great hires. You hope your GM knows what the hell he is doing.
Decker is better than Tate; Byrd signed a 6 year deal worth $54M (and $28m guaranteed) - that makes some sense for a team like the Saints but would make zero sense for the Jets; Whitner got overpaid by the Browns and is not a good player in any event (if we had got Ward that wouldve been good but he wanted to go to a superbowl favourite) and besides he only has a season or two left so would not be the long term solution you referred to; sanders also wanted to go play with Manning so we were never in the running there, Verner would have been a decent signing but a lot of other teams felt the same. A $12m deal for Revis would have made no sense at all - we are not 1 player away from success and he would have caused a ton of drama during and after the season. Face it you almost never get really good young players available in free agency for a very good reason and it is not the way to build a team.
If Idzik doesnt like any of the players, you want him to sign them for the sake of signing. Also it was more than half honestly last year that did not live up to the contracts, but regardless we have players on the roster. Its entirely possible he believes the guys we have will produce more than the free agent would.
The coach works for the GM. Idzik is Rex' boss. The GMs plan is the coaches plan. If Rex doesn't like it, he can quit at any time and take his chances on the open market. Short of that, shut up and fall in line. (I'm speaking to the coach not fans who have every right to question the GM) Calling your boss stupid is not a bright way to manage ones career. Ultimately, Idzik will be employed this time next year as the Jets GM and Woody will be the owner. As for Rex, he may or may not be a head coach at that time. And anyone troubled by Idzik's decisions that would cause "potential trouble" won't be here either. Idzik is planning for 2014 and beyond as well. Like it or not he is not going to front load money to B level free agents who are really short term answers. With DRC, the Giants will have to deal with the position again in two years and perhaps sooner. DRC has been on four teams in a very short period of time. Idzik is looking for long term stability at these positions. If he doesn't see a long term solution for the poisition he wants to fill, he will not pay big bonus money for a one or two year fix. That's his philosophy. Time will tell if this plan is better than Tannenbaum's pay now with pain later approach.
Non necessarily. Tannenbaum got fired after a 6-10 season and Rex kept his job. Rex then went 8-8 with a total crap (on offense) team. Idzik now had close to 50M to spend (after Sanchez is cut) and every other good team in the NFL is spending what they have to get better. If the Jets go 6-10 again this year and there are a bunch of empty seats and Woody has to lower prices once again who do you think will go and who do you think will stay?
Because we're rebuilding which entails some losing. And no the team hasn't been rebuilding since '69. Let the process play out before you judge Idzik.
