that one wasn't because he didn't want to pay, but that he just didn't think enough of him to bring him back.
Well for starters Idzik totally fumbled the DRC negotiation. A savvy, seasoned GM locks him up before he leaves.
yeah, that top free agent WR we went and spent money on, if you're gonna harp on not spending on DRC and Howard beyond a price range he was comfortable with you can at least care to bring up one guy he did bring in. One top FA shouldn't shouldn't hurt you're argument that he'll only sign players for pennies right? not picking Cro up wasn't about the money, he honestly just didn't care that much if he was back it seems.
Howard should have been resigned. I'm happy about decker, but also nervous. Any time a guy plays with elite qb numbers are high. 3 mill cane sign cromartie? Hurt he was better than milliner and Wilson. Idzick hasn't done a good job. I know 2020 we will be awesome. Long ways away. I understand the idzick do nothing plan and pray he has the same success seatless gm had a couple years ago with his draft. To remind everyone again. Idzick wasn't the gm in Seattle. Lol
He had a range that reflected the value that he thought DRC was worth and what limit he was ready to go to to bring him in based on how much he thought the team needed him. Negotiations evidently went beyond that point, so he didn't overspend from what he thought he was worth, and let the results play out without signing him. Now you guys can disagree with his summations of the talent that was present and what lengths he should have gone to get them. nothing wrong with that. but personally I'm not gonna get mad at him for not paying a player more than he actually thought he was worth in a desperate act to fill a need as if no other worthwhile prospect would reveal itself in the future. I'm glad we have a stronger GM like that, one isn't insecure of his own views and has shown an ability to be pragmatic in the face of negotiations not going his way. Its nice to have a man behind the wheel thats not prone to panic in the face of what if. we'll see if his alternatives can be just as wroth it, I can't say they absolutely will, I just won't bemoan him for going that way in the first place.
What if DRC wanted more money from the Jets than he wanted from the Giants? What if the Giants offered significantly more money?
Reports say he dint. Idzick offered a low ball one year deal. Then after realign his mistake attempted to up his offer but was to late
It would have been nice, but he's making top RT money... not sure if he's worth that. natural, understandable. I think he'll be alright though, not 1.3k yard good, but an affective receiver with surprising ability at times. It could have I'm sure, but evidently Idzik wants to move on and didn't really try to bring him back. I don't agree with that, I think he should have been brought back just for experiences sake while Dee and maybe Walls, gets his bearings but he seems confident that what we have or can have will be the better alternative. how do you know? we haven't even seen the results on the field. hell he's not even done...
Well he brought in douzable who's been a great find & would start on some teams.otherwise you are right. Most of front 7 is Tannys work
how do you know? we haven't even seen the results on the field. hell he's not even done...
I have a really bad feeling about this guy and the way things are unfolding. The happy answer is, he has a plan. Disregard the fact what he's done here seems foolish. By what he's done I'm referring to the nothing he's done. I hope I'm wrong and we find 8 impact players in this years draft, and every guy he can sign for the vets minimum plays well. I just don't see it happening.
Gee, I must have missed all of those earlier posts claiming that Idzik is God... I don't have a particularly strong opinion on Idzik yet because I just don't think we've seen nearly enough at this point to make that judgement. There's nothing wrong with debating his individual moves (or non-moves as the case may be) but why is it that so many people are ready to declare him an out and out failure when there is so little to go on at this point? I can only guess that people take these extreme positions so early on so that they can play the "I told you so" card if things go the way they said they would.
You missed my original point yet again, what a surprise. I originally referenced Pace to highlight that Idzik's brand of continuity so far includes vastly increasing the salary of an over the hill role player while letting an up and coming player walk. His original ties to the team via FA acquisition was a dig at you and the same few guys that keep putting <3's on your posts because, like, you still think it's a an all star move to resign him for more money 6 years later. The guy that was originally signed through FA. Get it yet? No? Moving on... You also continually mention how he got 10 coverage sacks yet also complain about how bad are secondary supposively is/was. How the hell does an “over the hill” OLB who has seen better days get 10 coverage sacks behind a crappy secondary. Doesn’t that require…I don’t know…GOOD COVERAGE??
Now you want to say that the secondary was good overall last year? I love how you can say that and take yourself seriously. Just lol. Pace got coverage sacks when the rest of the front 7 were busy collapsing the pocket and eating up blockers. Calvin would wind up beating a TE or HB or maybe even a couple weak OL's after way too long, WHEN the secondary didn't get immediately torched. Really tough concepts. I said 4x meanwhile it'll probably wind up being around 3x assuming you're actually right about something and he gets cut after next year. After tacking on that dead money to his year one base salary and any performance incentives. Neither of you disspelled shit. And for the record I'm fine with Calvin on the team for another year in the absence of a true answer, I just think Idzik overpayed for someone that would draw little to no interest from other teams at this point. At the end of the day it's completely meaningless though, because there's so much useless cap space sitting there somebody might as well benefit from it, why not overpay Calvin as long as Idzik was going to piss away any FA opportunities anyway. Let's not talk about how you incited that argument by saying Giacomini's contract was $23M when it was only $18. It was late and I thought it was more like 4.5 but for some crazy reason I gave you credit for having a clue what you were talking about with the major thrusts of your argument. My mistake, but again by all means let's revisit just how overpriced Howard was or wasn't after his second year starting. I agree, let's just cut Colon and start Winters alongside a 5th round rookie guard. Look how well it worked out starting a 3rd round rookie guard last year. No, when you have a bunch of holes on the roster and you go about filling them with mid/low round rookies by forcing a guy to start day one when his talent level is to hopefully become useful depth after a few years you haven't gained shit. You just have the same hole you started out with. When you need immediate starters and you rely on low round draft picks to get that done it's either boom or bust for that year. Get it? No? Didn't think so, looking forward to you repeating the same flawed logic again. Oh I'm just thrilled that the 7th round Bohanon made the team and was not only the starting FB but also played what 1/3 of snaps? It's just so much fun to see a practice squad player help bring down a mostly stagnant offense that much further. You know, if guys like those actually were depth players I'd be very happy to have them on the team and ride the bench as they develop. But instead under this strategy they get thrown to the wolves, picked apart, hurt the team's results, and they'll probably have another friend or two from this years draft to join them this year and do it all over. Why would anyone ever want to add a competent or more than competent veteran solution for a reasonable price when you can afford it? Why didn't I get the memo that the team has to be needlessly fucked for the next 2-3 years while we wait around and see if any of these nobodies ever turn into something? How impatient.
"Reports" say if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. When are people going to realize that when the media doesn't have any information they make stuff up?
