I wonder how many times Westhoff smashed his cane against the TV last night watching our special teams unit.
Great to see Lawrence make the Jets PS played rugby against this guy at school he's an absolute beast. Was competing in Olympics discus then joined 49ers been learning his trade there for 3 years (Had no previous American/college football experience) Interesting to see the Jets see him as an OL as supposed to a DE. Very smart guy as well got a place in Oxford university to study Law.
When we were in London they showed a story about him on the screen and the Londoners knew him... Oh, nothing pertinent...just a kool story
Underrated addition when he returns this week, in the run and pass game. We were kind of missing that receiver out of the backfield and his presence as a blocking WR (Kerley is pretty much useless in that area). I'd imagine they're gonna IR Stacy soon to make room for him.
Great blocker. Big body. Should be able to get receptions even when covered, unlike Kerley. He just has not shown he can catch.
Things would be going so much smoother if Amaro never got hurt. Jace makes that catch against the Bills.
He's raw as a receiver, still inconsistent and developing but he did have 5 catches in one game early in the season. He'll never catch 100 balls per year but he can be a good consistent contributor, and he's a mismatch. Too fast for linebackers to cover, too big for cornerbacks. Basically something Bumberland was supposed to be.
Had high hopes for Jace. Looked so much improved as a blocker, would have been a matchup nightmare as an HB. For the record:
Okoye is OL now? Athletically he's a monster but the chances of him amounting to anything are slim to say the least. More of a project than Hayden Smith was.
Sure seems like we were missing enunwa on alot of outside runs these last 4 games. I think he will definitely help chipping watt this sunday
He played DL for a few years. It's pretty common for DL to make the transition to OL. The Steelers had a guy who was like a 230 lbs. DE for the Eagles last year. Gained 100 pounds since then, was moved to OT and he's now their starting LT. The sky is the limit for Okoye but it will take a lot of work obviously for him to amount to anything. If everything works out perfectly (and it always does of course) and Brick doesn't stick around next year he could be competing for that job, or at least be a swing tackle and then maybe a year later compete there. Either way he's worth the gamble. Beats having a guy on the PS that doesn't have any shot at becoming a contributor or just for special teams purpose. You can find those anywhere.
Fair enough, but presumably these guys will normally have played some OL in HS? Okoye hadn't played the game until he was signed by the Niners. There is lots of potential there for sure so it is worth the gamble. What worries me is he hasn't really stuck at anything - was a rugby player (pro-level), then ditched that to take up discus (nearly reached Olympic final on about a year's training), then he tries the NFL and is on his second position. I'm not sure that's what you want to see from a long-shot hopeful. I think this is year 3 on a PS for him now, how much more eligibility does he have?
Yeah, another one. He did have more football experience but Okoye is a world class athlete, he should be able to pick up things faster and better if he's committed which he seems considering he's been on practice squads for a couple years now.
