hopefully it means petty marched into macs office, slammed the door behind him and told him "this is my team now, don't you dare sign someone of the street to try and take this opportunity away. btw, we're going to kick the jags asses this week." then as he's walking out, " I'll see you again when we're talking about my contract extension."
Hey Ballhawk--What's the best way to find out what is going on at practice on any given day? Things like who's wearing non-contact, if they're in pads, even the time practice starts etc. TIA
Cimini and Mehta would be your best bet. They're at practice throughout the week, either watching and or doing interviews afterwards (pressers etc.) so they're usually the first ones to know and tweet it out. Make sure you check their twitter pages if you want to stay on top of everything.
Yes, we have just confirmed that Jeremy Kerley has called for another fair catch while you were typing that.
Have they tried Devon Smith returning kicks/punts? Kids supposed to be 'fast'. Wouldn't mind our own Eldelman back there.
kerley still tied for 6th in the league in PR fair catches with Sproles. Still dead in the middle (16th) for average return yards. Still hasn't fumbled a punt return. Still hated as the worst punt returner in the history of football on TGG.
Probably not but he's looking like the 3rd down slot guy right now with Devin Smith not untracked yet. Owusu and Enunwa being out has opened up a lot of space in the game plan.
You should have somebody returning punts who theoretically can take it to the house if two guys fall down/miss tackles. Unfortunately Kerley doesn't meet that standard. That's why the hate is there. Cotchery was similar when the Jets used him to return punts in emergencies but he went straight north south and got more out of the returns than you'd expect when he did that. Edit: and I just looked up their career records and you're right Kerley gets more hate than he should. He's almost exactly at Cotchery's numbers with a 9.6 YPR. I get the feeling from looking at the numbers that he probably fair catches more than Cotchery did but he's about as productive when he actually returns the ball.
Kerley has done pretty well when he's had opportunities this year. His blocking has been sub-par at best. The funniest thing I read on here is people bitching and moaning about him fair catching. Like he's supposed to go game breaker mode and make everyone bounce off him as he catches the ball. He's also the last guy to have a punt return TD for us.
I don't care at all about the fair catches from Kerley. I suppose I am in the minority there but I don't care about punt returning. Just don't fuck up and we're good. The game is played on offense and defense. Would I rather have Deion Sanders back there? sure. But I would rather have a guy like Kerley who reliably catches the ball so we can bring the offense out opposed to another guy who might have more electricity but fucks up from time to time.
There's nothing really that would suggest he can do it. He hasn't done it in college and considering his struggles picking up the offense and the rib injury thing now behind him I think it would be smarter for him to just focus on WR, learn the offense and not take any big shots on a meaningless kick return. Wouldn't mind bringing Javier Arenas back.
Jim Leonhard comes to mind. Catch the ball. Gain a few yards. Don't turn it over and don't get hurt. I too am fine with that.
the thing that gets me the most it doesn't really make all that much difference. the margin between good and average is so small that is silly to me to make a big deal out of. Kerley is an average punt returner that never muffs. Last year the league leader in punt return average was Darren Sproles at 13.0 yards per return. Kerley is averaging 8.6 yards per return. So the VERY best guy is only making a difference of 4.4 yards. Of all the problems with these Jets is 4.4 yards difference really worth crying about? Ivory picks that up on 1st down! as long as kerley never fumbles.. he's doing his job back there IMO
