thats fine.... but he fair catches alot where there is plenty of room for a return. and when he does return it, he doesnt go anywhere. if kerley was contributing elsewhere it would be one thing. but his only role on this team is as a returner, so why not get a returner who isnt awful at returning? when you dont have a great QB, it makes being good every where else that much more important
"he doesn't go anywhere" is bullshit first of all, and secondly, it's also a factor of the blocking. he's smack in the middle of the league for average return. Again, he's not great, but he gets some good returns for us when they're available and he doesn't turn it over. If you're going to cut him who are you replacing him with?
being average when you are a return specialist doesnt get it done. i dont know who is available off the top of my head, but it would be really hard not to do better then a guy who has no role on the team besides returning and is average at best at it. he doesnt fumble? thats great considering all he does is fair catch. he also is overpaid for a guy who does 1 thing and doesnt do it very well
He's also good depth at WR and it's a mystery why he's not used more. I'll agree he's over paid. "all he does is fair catch" is just more bullshit.
I agree about the depth. He did play in one game and got multiple targets. If he doesn't fit into our offense then trade him during the offseason. You should be able to get something for him. Here's his contract and it's not that much http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/45096/breakdown-of-jeremy-kerleys-new-contract. Personally I think he should be used more in the offense but how can you complain when our offense is working. I still believe that having an elite return guy (esp punts now that kick off returns have been neutralized, a mistake in my opinion in terms of the NFL-it makes the game less exciting). Kerley is dependable as a PR and doesn't fumble. And he's ok not that bad as a PR.
Kerley isnt a WR anymore in my opinion. he isnt good enough to see snaps at that spot. which is basically why he doesnt play here. he cant beat out young subpar 4th and 5th WRs and even with injuries and an offense that often goes 4 and 5 wide he doesnt see the field. he isnt very vast, isnt very quick, doesnt have very reliable hands, doesnt get open all that well. he IS a specialty return man. i agree with you, you probably dont want one... but if you have one, he should be good, not average or worse like kerley is. kerley has no business being on this roster
I don't agree about Kerley being worthless as a receiver. Not sure exactly why he's not playing. I kind of disagree with it. I do believe in a return specialist if the guy is above average and has that talent. Not that many have it in the NFL. I believe you get more value out of that roster spot than a backup player who basically only plays on special teams anyways.
but thats what kerley is, a backup player who only plays special teams why dont you agree with him not playing? he really doesnt bring anything to the table as a WR. he sint great outside, he doesnt stretch the field. on the isnide, he isnt good either, and you can get away witha LB or safety on him. he doesnt do much after the catch, he doesnt have sure hands i mean, whats to like?
I'm basing this on his past play. But I have no complaints about Gailey. If he doesn't think that Kerley works in his offense ok with me because the O is working without him so far. I do think in some games he'll use him. Maybe even today.
he hasnt really done anything in 5 years. he had 1 year were he was somewhere close to decent, and that was basically due to haing no other option and being targeted 100 times. i dont see it
But you're right in that he's not good enough as a return guy to be a PR specialist. He is reliable and that seems to be the Jets philosophy on their return game. They are willing to give up the chance to get big plays for no turnovers. So far it's working.
I've been a Cumby supporter but it was obvious (to me) yesterday that after Amaro went down Mac should have gone out and gotten another receiving tight end. I mean they finally targeted Cumby yesterday and he was ok but he doesn't make the big play. Scott Chandler had a couple of key receptions yesterday and Gronk had over 100 yards. Imo if you're going to line up tight ends they should be receiving targets, too. We could have signed a guy like Chandler, too.
The safety position looked so good before AA and JJ went down. Now with Pryor banged up it's getting a little too thin.
As in losing a hall of fame center and not having a second hall of fame center on the roster. This guy can be such a doofus sometimes. Jets also worked out a safety & a WR/KR.
There are also some pretty good players in the PAL and Firefighters Union Teams. A little old but who knows? hehe CFL and Arena League sound good
I remember when the Pats had Demps in pre-season of 2012, I only saw a couple of plays, but his straight line speed in pads was jaw-dropping. I was happy to hear he wouldn't be with them in the regular season. Doubt he makes the team, and if he does, doubt he lasts more than a couple of games healthy, but that speed is tempting.
