fitz coming thru in the clutch wouldn't constitute winning in spite of him. in your scenario yes fitz would stay. but if we are 4-4 surviving turnovers and wining low scoring affairs, i think we see a switch.
I agree if we are 4-4, surviving TOs, and winning low scoring affairs there will be a switch. What I meant by Fitz coming thru in the clutch, was that he's completing less than 60% of his passes, throwing interceptions, but the ground game is working, the D holding opponents offense to 10-15 points or less per game, and at clutch moments in those games, Fitz makes a key throw for a TD or 1st down and they win the game, survive his shaky play, but they have a record like 7-1. It's not very likely, but I've seen things like that happen. 2009 was kind of like that with Sanchez. The rest of the team carried him through most of the season, but the team kept winning.
Mo's buddy is back at it. I don't see it happening. Mo hasn't been the same player the last 2 years Dareus was. Prove it this year and then maybe you deserve that kind of dough. He's locked up here for 2 more years, for cheap. He's got no leverage.
The Jets were 4-6 with Sanchez through 10 games in 2009. They'd lost 6 out of the last 7 games at that point. Sanchez was sucking and the Jets were losing because of it. The early Cotchery injury was huge also. Jets went from 3-1 at the time he was injured to 3-5 before he got back fully healthy. Fitzpatrick is a career 60% passer. He's shown signs over the last season plus of developing into a safer more methodical QB at the expense of some of the explosiveness that he had in his years with the Bills. I'm guessing he plays it safe most of the year and probably completes between 63 and 65% of his passes and Geno doesn't see the field unless he gets hurt or the Jets have a real garbage-time win or two.
So I guess we aren't signing any QBs and keeping Petty as the #2. Guess that'll work out until Geno returns after the BYE
If they do plan on signing somebody it sure isn't Josh. They'll probably stick with Petty until Geno returns.
sticking with Petty as the backup is the best move imo... no sense wasting a roster spot on another QB for just a couple weeks.
This makes me a bit sad, though I understand our coaching staff has no loyalty to someone who was suspended for a game. I just think Aboushi looked much, much better than Winters last year at the LG position. Maybe Winters is a better RG, who knows, but its an unfortunate cut IMO. I would have cut our rookie 7th rounder nose tackle and stashed him in the practice squad.
I thought he was better than Colon, certainly years ahead of Winters who looked like complete garbage. But I guess Todd doesn't want this pot thing hanging over his head with a backup guy. Dozier & Winters are safer options. But I think he will be a starter for somebody.
This could have been Bowles opportunity to make a statement to the players. As much I thought Aboushi was a capable backup much better than Winters, - Bowles probably felt this very replaceable player was his only chance to say something to the players without uttering a single word.
