he shouldn't stick. no one keeps 3 NT's, all of which are situational players. if he's not cut to pick up a TE, it would look a little bad on Mac imo.... like trying to keep all your draft picks rather than the best talent regardless. Simon belongs on PS.
Could be he gets cut for a TE--maybe they're entertaining trades for Barnes too. Could be a few outcomes.
Geno is a walking turnover. We are wasting our time trying to develop him. If he was any type of leader someone would have stopped the IK situation before it got that far but not even his OL stood up for him in the press after IK knocked his lights out. With Flynn there would be no illusions that he could be the guy so we would still make the move to get better at the position.
When do you know if any of the players cut today have been claimed on waivers or not? Some time tomorrow?
Why would they re-sign Dalton Freeman? Did Wesley Johnson get cut and I miss it? He clearly outplayed Freeman.
Obviously, and I understand long-term thinking, but I seriously doubt if anyone would have signed Jones off the PS. IMO he's not even close to being ready to play in the NFL based on what I've read. I haven't been able to see him myself, but I've not read of one good thing he's done, or one good report on him and his progress. Mays is a very good STs player and was making plays. I guess we'll see in time how it plays out, but right now at least, this looks like a bad decision to me, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
He couldn't. I read earlier that there would be something like a $4 million dead money cap charge if Kerley was traded or cut. That would work against signing Mo, and wouldn't help.
I guess they think Winters can handle center if need be. It is really interesting that they kept so many OL, NTs and CBs and so few WRs.
Winters can play Center, and Mangold is one of the most reliable players in the league. So this is pretty much what I've expected us to do a couple months ago, I didn't see us carrying another Center because it's not worth it. You can stash a Wesley Johnson or Dalton Freeman on your practice squad for insurance and call him up any given week, you don't need him on your active roster. If Mangold gets injured which just doesn't happen. It will be interesting to see what happens after week 1 with the Guards once Aboushi returns. He either takes Jarvis' spot or Dakota. One of them will be gone.
Yes. Wesley Johnson got cut. They cut Freeman because they figured they had their backup center in Johnson. After a disastrous 2nd half against the Eagles they decided to cut him leaving them with no backup center on the 53 man roster (Winters has taken emergency snaps as center but he's not a backup center). The Jet's OL on their 53 man roster are: D'Brickashaw Ferguson James Carpenter Nick Mangold Willie Colon Breno Giacomini Ben Ijalana Brent Qvale Brian Winters Dakota Dozier Jarvis Harrison
They drafted him for a reason. Snacks will be gone next year (I think) and TJ Barnes isn't a proven guy (to Bowles anyway) so they had to bring in somebody they were going to count on. You don't draft that guy with the intention of stashing him on your PS, that makes no sense. I like our 3 interior guys. Simon is not your typical 3-4 NT, he's not Snacks, he's not TJ. He's more disruptive, he attacks, he can generate some push. Barnes is a little bit like that but the guy is 6'7 and around 370 pounds, he can't do the things Simon does. He's a lock, he's not going anywhere. They are more likely to cut that Bowen bum. He'll be gone anyway after week 4 once Sheldon returns. And if they bring in a TE they will make room by cutting one of the bums we have at TE. Cumberland or Kellen Davis. You don't keep this garbage around if you bring in a new TE. Any TE we add will be an upgrade over those two chumps, there's no need you keep those around and cut somebody like Dex or Simon. But that's just me.
I don't understand the Owusu and Mays situations at all. They were in that group of bubble guys that I thought clearly earned a roster spot by outplaying all of the competition (Stacy and Miles the others). Who could we possibly be targeting on the waiver wire at WR? I don't see anyone out there that's even somewhat appealing considering they may have to touch the field week 1.
It's interesting to note but not surprising; that Mac kept all his picks from this years draft. He don't seem like the ego type so I hope he has a backup plan because we should have kept one of the WR's we released.
DBH I'm on the same page figure he would cut last years regime players over his own picks. Bowen though will be cut come week 4
