More optimistic deal news: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/15/report-economics-of-deal-are-essentially-done/ We heard for a long time that the revenue split was the primary bridge to cross to getting a deal done. Then it was the rookie wage scale. Now it appears both issues are handled. Albert Breer of NFL.com reports the economics of deal are essentially “done” with a few small details left. Breer writes that the players will initially get 47-48% of the revenue split. Other issues remaining include the legacy fund for retirees, judicial oversight, and player safety. Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Globe says that the “football” issues are going slower than expected. Still, there wouldn’t have been a lockout if not for the economic differences between the side. They have apparently agreed how to divide up their $9 billion. Getting that out of the way is yet another positive sign in a 24-hour period that has included quite a few such developments.
Still too soon to tell. We don't know if the cap is 120 or the "feels like" 130 that NFL.com is reporting, don't know if the $10 million in dead cap space counts, and don't know if the workout bonuses that didn't get paid are going to count in any way. The scary thing with Cro, Holmes and Edwards is that a few teams (Tampa, KC) are going to have to spend a TON of money; if any of them target our guys they will be able to vastly overpay.
I too agree with helping Mark as much as possible. I've always been confident in Rex and what he can do with what he has, but the job he did against the Pats in the Playoffs was beyond ridiculous. We still have core guys on D, as long as we have Rex I'll always be confident in our defense until proven otherwise. Sanchez is only getting better and if he were to have both Edwards and Holmes for the next few years our team would quickly become a offensive minded team, IMO.
More news (well, more speculation, but I'll take it): http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/15/report-global-settlement-is-possible-today/ Report: Global settlement is possible today Posted by Mike Florio on July 15, 2011, 2:03 PM EDT Well, it’s time to put the pink champagne on ice. With all economic issues now resolved and questions far less thorny or crucial remaining, it remains a matter of time before a labor deal is done. That time could come today. Liz Mullen of SportsBusiness Journal reports that she’s hearing a global settlement could be reached on Friday. She’s not saying it will happen. She’s saying it’s possible. And it suggests that neither side has capitalized on the sense of inevitability by digging in on the remaining issues and hoping that the other side will cave.
We're just as fucked as we were under the Final Four rules last year. As in not at all. Playa's on the case.
Restructuring in most instances means giving the player more guaranteed money, and Tannenbaum has been with the Jets long enough to know this this philosophy is dangerous...
Looks like the current position on UFAs is 72 hour team negotiation period instead of RoFR. I hope Tanny is ready to go.
Tannenbaum should go after Braylon Edwards first. He WANTS to be here, so he might want to get things done quickly. Holmes is the better player, but negotiating with him will take much longer.
Well if he does than that would be in violation of the lockout. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how many players actually get signed during the 3-day period.
I have a great feeling this entire league will be in violation of the lockout. Everyone has been talking to each other. Emails and calls can still be made and no one can know without subpoenaing the call history.
Haha yeah I'm sure years from now we'll find out just how much shit was going on during this period of time. Agents picking up notes left by team interns with the barista at Starbucks and shit like that. For fucks sake, Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones were at Romo's wedding...but they didn't say a word about football. My ass.
