I think alot of the "circus" description is media generated, but Rex doesn't help extinguish it with some of the things he says ... For example, when Sanchez threw the pick-6 in the Detroit preseason game and Rex talks about not watching. He is perfectly accurate in saying head coaches don't watch every play, but perhaps could have chosen a better way to answer the question. or when talking about putting Sanchez in the game in the 4th - he was trying to win? I think if he decided to be less honest and straightforwad and more cryptic, it could serve him better.
The Jets & Giants try to win that game every year. It's a tradition and part of our rivalry. I mean really, Coughlin iced the kicker TWICE in a preseason game as if it was a playoff game, but I don't see anybody speaking out about that. "OH MAN, HE'S TRYING TO WIN A MEANINGLESS GAME!" Double standards. You obviously play to win. Why wouldn't you?
That is freakin' HILARIOUS!!!!!! :metal: Maybe we'll see a pregame sideline "slap" ala Buddy Ryan and Gilbride!!!!! LOL LOL Suzy Kolber can be the referee while side stepping Joe Namath's advances. Me thinks that ESPN should run with this and Bud Weiser could work it into the "Media Bowl" or something like that. he he he he he heeeee
Damn right!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes when he iced the kicker...but, you are right about winning. NO ONE wants to lose in preseason. Every team wants to go into the regular season on a high and brimming with confidence. It's absolutely ridiculous for anyone to say that these guys go out there to only evaluate...win or lose.
Thank you for posting that article. It hits the nail on the head. I do not claim that the Jets should be praised or not criticized. I only want fair reporting, and we don't get that from the NY media.
that's only because el taco's paycheck is not coming out of your checking account. if it was, you'd be unable to upgrade your crib/ride.
In some cultures, it was tradition to throw virgins into a volcano. It didn't make the volcano any less likely to wipe out the village below, but it sure made it easy to bang young chicks. But seriously, icing a kicker isn't getting players hurt. Putting your probable starting quarterback behind a third string OL does...and just because Tom Coughlin is a lunatic, doesn't mean Rex has to follow suit. Pre-season games are played for numerous reasons. Winning is way down on the list. Near the top of the list is player evaluation. We already know what Sanchez can do behind a shitty O line. There's no good excuse for what Rex did in this instance...and the results bear that out.
LOL!!!! No doubt!!! Then again, I'm kind of on the Simms bandwagon right now. I can't WAIT for tonight's game...I'm going to burn that baby to DVD and analyze the crap out of it. I hope he lights it up for 2 - 300 yards and a quartet of scores etc...I'd like to know we have a few decent QB's on the roster and choices/options. I REALLY believe...REALLY BELIEVE that the Jets go 8-8 at the very least. The beauty of the NFL.Com preseason package is I can go back and watch all the games, in condensed format, pause...rewind...etc.... Since I work from home...I have the time as well. I have watched every single game and studied all the "1st Team" footage across the league and I have to tell you... The NY Jets look no worse than 85% of the teams in the league right now. And...their defense looks to be capable of a top 5 finish...across the board. The ONLY teams that look better across the board are the Seahawks, 49'ers & Falcons. Every other team out there shows all kinds of warts... It only takes a marginally educated football eye to see this. Doesn't matter that teams are running vanilla offenses. Within division...8 total games...we actually match up well this year and I'll tell you why. Pre-season game 3 is the one game out of the 4 where you get a fairly decent look at what each team will field to start the regular season. New England is in trouble...they can't handle an elite D-Line. The Lions DESTROYED them. I don't care about exotic blocking schemes etc...the Lions essentially ran over the Patriots. Tom Brady, as proven time and again, is an average QB against the teams with elite defensive lines. Tack on his lack of weapons and I see a very down year for the Patriots as far as we're concerned. Buffalo Bills...umm...yeah...I still can't figure out how they are flying under the national media radar with the mess they have at QB. It's twice as bad as ours!! When you are signing that turd Matt Leinert off the street you are in trouble. Poor C.J. Spiller...if he makes it through the first half of the season with as much as they're going to run that guy I'll be shocked. Miami...another Washington, Philadelphia...countless other teams...who tried to spend big in free agency to buy a division title. It never works...and those aforementioned teams had pretty sold options at QB. I really like Tanny but he's by no means what I would consider an elite QB. We'll see how it turns out...but they too have a pretty decent Defense. I say the Division title, this year goes through NY or Miami this year. Even if all of that, above, is wrong...I STILL see at least an 8-8 finish. Period.
since you played in the league, I will defer to your analysis. I hope you are right. finishing first after all this mess would be the sweetest revenge. winning the division would be almost as good as the two afc champ game appearances. especially given the national lack of repect, let alone in the nyc media alone.
Bway, he had no business being under Center, with Peterman p,aying the position. Thats really the issue. Schlauderaff should have moved back to Center, of you are playing your presumptive starter. However...you guys bring up the Jax game, but you need to put that in context. During the Jax game, sanchez played well into the spot Geno would have played in. But..at that time Genos first half against the Giants did not exist. At half time in that game Sanchez was your starter for opening day, and it was further solidified when Genos fourth turnover was a Safety At that prudence dictates that Sanchez doesnt see the field till opening day. He already putup 37 points, and played well enough...deep in the 4 th qtr, against scrubs, as well as behind them....what meaningful reps was he going to get? A lesson in Running. Though, I blame Mark too. He took a hit prior and came up grabbing his hand. He should have known to go to the sideline.
Mezz, If Sanchez is healthy opening day, the Jets are better than Tampon Bay, Buffalo, and tennesee. The NE game week 2 on Thursday noght is interesting because the Jets coaching stafff os going up against an offense and defense they know pretty well, NE on defense, will be forced to play half assed sandlot ball, because there isnt going to much film, on how MM adapts to this personnel. 3-1 at worst, possibly a 4-0 shit sandwich for the media. (wonder whos going to ask Peter King about his 3 win ceiling) Pitt isnt going to be good this year, Im not sold on Cincy, and NO ouside, in Nov, pray for bad weather. And the back end of the schedule, should have Jets fans optimistic.
If the Jets can survive the 1st 8 games ... things should set up nicely for them the last half of the season.
Except he kind of has with the QB situation, particularly with the 'backwards and sideways' press conference and that hasn't exactly gone over well either.
