Mack's contract is an absolute disaster for the next three years ($30/28/26 million cap hits) for a guy whose production will surely slow and already has (sacks, TFL, QB hits, etc. are down albeit not a lot).

Acquiring him would not be a good move as he'll be 33 by the time this team is ready for a deep playoff run and still sucking in tons of money.

The trade value of 23+34 alone is in the 9-10 range. The Jets could potentially package those 2 picks get one of the guys you list and then trade Darnold separately for a later (35+) 2nd rounder.

Definitely another way to go about it!

Just to be clear, I meant to package Sam and 23 or Sam and 34, not both 23 and 34.

Trey Lance pro day: North Dakota State high-ranked QB prospect showcases talents for NFL coaches, scouts
By all accounts, Lance only helped his draft stock during Friday's session
    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...able-players-and-where-they-might-be-heading/

Lance's performance on Friday prompted one of NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah’s scouting sources to compare him to Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen.

"Nitpick him all you want, but this is a guy who can make some special, special throws," Jeremiah said of Lance during NFL Network's Path to the Draft Pro Day Special.

The workout included 66 throws scripted to showcase passes relevant to the offenses run by quarterback-needy clubs, according to NFL Network’s Kim Jones, who was on assignment for the pro day in Fargo, North Dakota. As usual, there is a heavy presence of teams in need of a quarterback early in the draft, including five clubs with top-10 selections.

"He'd like to have a couple throws back, but this was all about horsepower. When you watch this workout today, you saw him power the football," Jeremiah said. "… You saw it from under center, you saw it from play-action, you saw it on the move, but to me, it all came down to once he put his back foot in the ground and that ball jumps.

"He was able to stretch the field with that power arm. Some touch throws down the field got away from him, particularly to the right side, but ... he is dripping with ability."

I think all the talk of there being a market for Darnold is just not true. Or at least it was not nearly what JD wanted to get for him. Be honest, if the Jets were borderline playoff ready and were looking for a qb, would anyone on this board want to trade for the worst quarterback in the league for the last 3 years who throws awful interceptions and can't stay healthy?

Rockinz, Lance's pro day was "terrible"?? I hadn't heard that....where did you hear that? Just curious. And what was he doing wrong on his pro day?? Missing receivers by a mile or something??

So much here to unpack. And I completely agree.
Once an organization makes that commitment to a QB they are married to that decision for a number of years.

As for Sanchez, it actually would have worked (it did) in the appropriate scheme. Great OL, great running game / play action pass offense, great D. Thinking he was a drop back throw the ball 40 times a game was the end. He was an average QB when surrounded by studs. So, what do the Jets do... get rid of all his studs.

So if, the Jets decided to grab Russ Wilson in the 3rd round in 2012, he’ll be out of the league, too. I’m not sure what This organization has been worse at - drafting players or developing them. It’s really quite a toss up.

Let’s mention Geno here. That draft pick, over all the other trash ones, was the one I had to quickly walk away from my TV before i threw it through a wall.

How the Jets brain trust thought it was a good idea to draft a suspect QB on day 2 after he walks out of the draft sulking because he wasn’t drafted in the first round. Talk about soft. So surprised that didn’t work out...Yet those dopes take him and are committed to his retarded ass. In addition to that he can’t take a punch.

Same with Hackenberg. Make that 2nd round pick and YEP you’re tied to that scrub for a few years too.

We know Sam’s not the answer. The Jets need to make sure the right new QB has the right environment to reach their potential.

I couldn't agree more! I think the school of thought that you keep drafting quarterbacks until you're sure you have the one is the way to go. Also, since we are picking so high, you have to take one at 2. I just hope that Chris Simms was right in his analysis of Wilson.

Yes. He did well because he had physical tools. That was my point.

And Tua, who has better mental traits, looked worse.

Physical traits show first. Mental traits take time.

I don't think they will be able to jump up from 23 to 8 by just adding Sam. I think SF is a realistic option at 12 though. 23 + Sam for 12 is intriguing.

At 23 I'm taking Wyatt Davis and at 34 I'm addressing IOL again. Not sure if Creed Humphrey is to early at 34, but IOL and IOL with both of those picks 100%.

I'm not worried about his age/production. He's got about 4 good seasons left in the tank. The guy is an all-pro who plays every down. He can rush, tackle, & cover. It makes no difference what he's making because he will play a very important role, plus JD has shown he can get talent without breaking the bank. We also have a lot of cheap young talent. We aren't making any huge signings anyway over the next 2 seasons so it's not that big of a deal.

We aren't getting a Khalil Mack at #23, #34, or wherever.

So then we take Parsons at 8 or 9. Meh, I would rather we get Mack plus Pitts, Waddle, or a CB.

Get rid of Mosely who hasn't played in 2 years. That will offset most of the deal. We need great players to help develop the young players. We don't injured players or ones who haven't played in 2 years who will likely get hurt to mentor all of our young talent. We need someone who stays on the field & is great.

After missing out on Thuney, I'm totally with you. Hoping Alijah Vera-Tucker slips to 23 and Davis to 34. We'd be set on the OL for a decade with Becton, AVT, and Davis.

If they pick two IOL with those picks, then there is no hope for this organization.

    One? Sure. But not both.

I wasn’t impressed at all. The ball hit the turf 8 times and a lot of passes were completely off target on short and intermediate throws. And that’s in shorts. He’s got huge bust potential. The most out of any of the top 5 QBs

He needs 2 years in my opinion. One at the very least. He didn’t play ball last year and is super raw. To me he is a poor mans version of Fields. I’m gonna say he will bust within 3 years. Especially if he starts somewhere next year
