Are we still talking about this? That game was classic dink and dunk Pennington post-2002 - the Jets had exactly ONE scoring drive, and it was 11 plays for a grand total of 38 yards, ending in a field goal. The offense didn't get past the Steelers' 25 yard line the entire game. The running backs (Martin and Jordan) averaged 4.5 yards per carry that day, which is hardly terrible, while Pennington averaged an atrocious 5.5 yards per pass attempt. The Steelers' first TD came after a Pennington interception gave them the ball on the Jets 25 yard line. What exactly did Pennington do that was actually good in that game? The amazing thing was that the Jets were even in the game with quarterback play that poor, and for that you can thank the special teams and defense.

You will note that Chad wasn't calling the plays, and I think that the main problem was the play calling.

I never liked Edwards lack of aggression when it came to the offense. I think he always wanted the score to be 12 to 10.

Quote: "...Since we don't know what they are actually doing if they decide not to have a competition will the CS still be doing the right thing in your opinion?..."

If they decide not to have a competition, then I would ask who is the starter, and who is the backup?

They need two QBs who are accomplished with the BS offense. If they think they can get it done with somebody other than Chad and Kellen, we should be hearing about it in the next couple of days. Otherwise, they won't be giving the veteran QB they're bringing in a full off-season to master the offense.

Of course, I don't know of any veteran QB that is available that could run the BS offense well. Trent Green seems a little fragile, even in terms of Chad Pennington. Somehow, Moss's other QB friend from Minnesota doesn't sound like he's the savior, either.

I think that if the CS decided not to have a competition, then they would probably have a damned good reason and a strategy to follow. I will say that today Mr. Faneca was asked about whether the so-called "unsettled" QB situation put him off at all about the NYJ, and he answered that all that will sort itself out in plenty of time. He sounded as if he was comfortable with the situation, and intimated that the competition would clarify the issue for the team.

So, the word out of the CS is still consistent about the competition. Otherwise, why would they choose to mislead these players they're bringing in with a calculated lie they will have to re-explain to them later on. Sounds like a needless layer of complication when they're trying to get the team to come together.
