I rewatched the game last night and by the time the 4th quarter rolled around I noticed I hadn't seen KW get beat on any throws, even when spot-starting for Revis and Cro during their brief stints on the sideline. Great stuff from Wilson, he looked more confident in his coverage and reacted to the ball well. Let's not overreact though after one game. We can't go from calling this guy a bust to crowning him the next Revis overnight. Week 1 was definitely promising and a nice gauge of how he's progressed to date.
Not sure i agree with Ducasse, Wilson was and is going to be fine but Ducasse is much more of a project. If the preseason is any indication he is years away of contributing.
Right on. We need Kyle to continue to play the middle with tenacity. He was always an asset, just took time to feel comfortable in a complex system. I agree with him covering the TE and see how it goes. By the time NE rolls around we need to figure out how to give the 2 TE formation fits using Kyle, Cro, and Smith
I know he's a project....the point I was making is that the majority is flying off the handle in the early going. There's no patience in this fan base.
People overreacted because of that rookie fraud up in New England who cant defend shit and got raped in the playoffs and was getting raped by the Dolphins.
Ducasse concerns are somewhat legitimate in my opinion. I'm certainly not ready to write the guy off yet but at the very least questions are starting to be raised about whether a guy that isn't going to be a decent backup until year 3 at best (probably) was worth the pick even if he turns out to be good.
how about we give the guy more than 1 offseason to learn the system. He's a project.....the steep learning curve was expected.
I don't disagree with that if you read my post. There are extra concerns with Vlad with regards to the time it's going to take him to become good, which creates legitimate economic concerns about him. It's clear that Kyle Wilson is and was less likely to bust than Vlad, not necessarily that Vlad is likely to bust. However, Kyle was 1st round and Vlad was second so it's to be expected. No big thing.
Id imagine this won't happen, but I follow you. I don't watch the film closely enough, so someone tell me---do we ever have Cro lined up inside? They're obviously two different animals, and I don't think Cro ever does this. Unless a TE lines up outside, id doubt we'd see Cro covering one. His inexperience inside and lack of muscle id think would make that a no go. Wilson obviously has played inside for a year, and we all believe he's better equipped for it this year.If we're gonna man up in sub packages, id think we want to have Cro/Revis on the outside, K Dubb on the TE on occassion and Strickland on the slot guy. We could flip KW and Strick based on matchup. Let's hope he keeps it up. If he can be an above average inside corner, that would seemingly go a long way toward helping us solve our interior pass defense woes.
It should go without saying that the fact that Wilson looked better does not mean Ducssse will definitely be a success.
Of course not but Kyle Wilson was a higher draft pick and was seen as a more NFL ready player coming out of College. Ducasse is a project which means he will take longer then most but hopefully with Callahan coaching him up it will be worth it in a couple seasons. I think year 4 Ducasse will be of starter quality. Of course thats longer then you would want for a 2nd round pick but it is what it is. I just hope by next season he will be able to be a servicable back up where we don't have to worry whenever he comes in.
This right here. He was on Ogletree for the most part. Cowboys were that thin at WR. Given that he had a no-name WR to defend, he played well. We'll see how he performs if he takes up a starting caliber WR.
I never said Ducasse would be a success. But we all know there were people on this board that threw K.Wilson under the bus because of the season he had last year....which was stupid. Ducasse deserves a chance to learn. Some learn faster than others. If Ducasse hasn't shown any improvement next season or even 2 seasons from now....then you re-evaluate, and cut him if that's the right decision for the Jets. I remember people saying Wilson sucks because of his rookie season. The same thing happened with Brick, and Revis to some extent as well. This fan base has no patience, was all I was getting at.
I think you definitely have to give Ducasse more time. Slauson needed some time before he was ready to step in, and he's done a respectable job. Ducasse is in a totally different stratosphere as far as physical talent. Let him hang out on the bench and step in when he's much more refined. I'm not giving up on him by a longshot.
i think there's a world of difference between the two. Ducasse just isn't very smart and doesn't pick up things correctly. Part of that is being inexperienced but he doesn't seem to "Get it". "getting it" was never kyle wilson's problem. He's a smart kid. It was confidence mostly, and lack of experience tied in with that.
he wasn't just on Ovaltine. revis and cro both sat out some plays and he was also lined up against the TEs a couple of times.
