Pretty smart move for all persons considered. Lowery gets to work back in with the nickels/dimes/guys who are too slow to play CB and have to switch to safety and Wilson gets more time to prepare for a starting roll.
too bad revis will probably show up a few days before the opener and KW will have limited experience as the nickel.
Wilson at nickel would be the prefect situation for him and this team. He would get the reps to develop, he would get the chance to observe two great man-coverage players and he wouldn't have to deal with the pressure of starting right out of the gate in his career. I'm not saying he cannot hold up, but putting that much pressure on a rookie is, in general, not a great idea.
... ding, ding, ding - we have a winner ... ... this will hinder the kid's development at nickel if revis does come back ... ... am i understanding this correctly that lowery is basically swapping spots with k-dub & lowery is now covering the slot guy #3 wr? if not, then who is? ... thx, l_j_r
The Jets don't think Revis is playing for them this year so they're preparing in that light. Ryan obviously doesn't like Lowery at RCB so he's prepping Wilson there. Whether Lowery can cover the slot or not is not clear but that Drew Coleman cannot is, so I think Lowery is probably the slot guy at the moment.
I think Lowery is above average covering the slot, and he is decent at spot duty at an outside CB spot. He did a pretty good job on Vincent Jackson a few times in the playoff game against San Diego.
injuries happen, so wilson needs reps at the #2 and #3 corner spots ... im sure he'll get both in the pre-season games
I sincerely hope to God (that I don't even believe, by the way) that KDub pans out - Hell, why not? I hope KDub turns out better than Revis. That way, Jets can ship Revis out for a couple of 1st rounders, which they can use to replenish the aging DL.
We got VERY VERY lucky that Wilson fell to us in this draft. Jets look like geniuses now for taking a corner with their 1st pick. I'm sure the Ravens are kicking themselves for not taking Wilson or McCourty... although they did get a pretty good package from the Broncos for that pick.
Cromartie vrs Marshall...... better hope you sign Revis..Physically he will dominate that matchup with that softie..
And make Revis expendable? Calling Marshall a "softie" seems a little overstated, but whatever troll. :finssuck:
If the Jets think Revis is not coming back, they need help at CB. I don't know what will be out there as camp cuts. Maybe a trade or something... Lowery at nickel even if Wilson is playing well doesn't make me feel good. I had high hopes for the guy, but let's face it, he's not that good.
Have to think that Lowrey is much more comfortable playing the Nickel anyway. We should get a good idea of what this kid has ahead of him come Monday. I imagine should the Gfags decide to throw it'll be at him.
Statistically (opposing QB rating when thrown at) he was one of the best CBs in the league last year. That is obviously because of the Jets defensive scheme and the fact that Revis single covered all the elite WRs while Lowery was getting help on inferior receivers, but I have no reason to think he can't be successful in a similar role again this year if Cromartie is able to become a shutdown corner... which I think he can be.
Here is why Dwight made this decision. http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/08/10/lowery-explains-comments/#more-27794
