If they can Rex, tghe coach who replaces him HAS to win AT LEAST 7 or 8 games A step back will not be tolerated, and will create a toxic situation if Rex gets hired by another team and makes the play-offs The team psyche and self-image cannot endure another Belichek situation
Let Rex play out his contract then re-up him depending on how the team performs next year. However you have to give him a fair chance, Idzik has to put some good players on this team.
I doubt players who were barely in high school and had nothing to do with the Jets when the Belichick situation went down will be effected by a similar situation as if it has happened again to THEM. you are reaching on that one. that is a non-issue.
No, I'm talking about the constant pounding the team will take in the media if that happens. That is how the team psyche will be affected.
I think Rex kind of fucked himself by him saying that he's getting fired. Idzik has to now. You cant go back on that. Plus, if they already made up their minds, beating a below average Cleveland team isnt going to change anything- or at least it shouldnt.
It's true that this could piss off the GM, except that if the comment was taken out of context by Glazer, Idzik would have to know what was really said.
You don't fire a coach when he over-achieves. The Jets future looks very bright. I don't think you cut ties with a coach after 1 year rebuilding in a new system with a rookie QB. They knew going in that this year was going to be tough with a bunch of rookies and 2nd year players replacing experienced veterans. We are transitioning, and one more deep draft for the offense is coming up. Keep Rex. We have some solid players plus young guys that have shown flashes that we can build a future around. Geno Smith, Chris Ivory, Jeremy Kerly, David Nelson should be the future of this team. Add a #1 WR. If I were I betting man, I'd say Rex stays. Were they really expecting a playoff run with the amount of young guys starting?
I agree with this........give Rex some talent on offense and see what happens next year. They are not going to find a coach who can do much better than Rex at this point with the same players. Rex has shown he can take a team far - give him a decent QB and some weapons. Starting over now will set the franchise back...
"Give him some talent on offense" Part of the job of the HC is to identify and develop talent, on both sides of the ball, not just one. At the very least he has to be able to hire a guy for his staff that can do those things, something he hasn't been able to do in his 5 years here, which is why he should be fired. There's already loads of talent on the defensive side of the ball, it's going to be fine no matter who the coach is, the Jets need a guy in the organization that knows how to build an offense.
Kerley, Cumberland and Powell has developed into solid NFL players. But it's also the gm's job to bring in talent. It's no secret that the talent has eroded the last 2 years. With cap flexibility lets hope that Idzik brings in some talent on offense.
In my honest opinion, Rex isn't going anywhere. I think that Glazer took Rex's comments out of context. He probably told the team something to the affect of, 'you know they're saying I'm going to be fired after the season...', blah, blah, blah...yada, yada, yada. Rex however will have zero to minimal say on FA signings and draft picks, in the upcoming off season, since it is alleged that he had a lot of influence on certain personnel decision, this year (Reed, Landry, etc..etc..) and under Tannenbaum. That being said, you never know. So I won't be surprised either way. But, would hate to see Rex go. I don't know how many other coaches could have pulled 7 (possibly 8) victories out of this team and had the Jets in playoff contention up until a week ago. None of this has gone unnoticed by either Idzik or Johnson.
Right, but heading into this season it was a clear write off. What talent was there to develop? Do you think Geno Smith and Greg Salas would be lighting it up for another staff? Morningwood has been pretty good at developing offensive players I might add.
You missed Indy last year . but yeah, 3 for 17 against teams that finished with winning records is pretty sad. Although, the numbers for this year can still change. Some of these teams can finish 500.
I agree it was stupid to force Rex on Idzik but unfortunately the owner can do whatever he wants. I just hope the error isn't compounded by tying Rex to Idzik for at least another year.
Players coming out in support means alot atleast to me.Where are the players on The Texans speaking for Kubiak or in Washington. Its not something you see alot.Hypothetical question if Rex won those two AFC title games but Lost both Superbowls would the Rex Haters still want him gone?
One thing that would suck is giving Geno another offense to learn. Basically stunting any development that he may make this offseason. If he can learn to read a defense he can be the franchise QB.
This^^ Regime changes seldom yield good results with young teams with unproven quarterbacks outside of the Harbaugh's really, and I guess you could say Andy Reid.
the players admiration of the man has never been in question. all that matters is wether or not Idzik KNOWS he can bring in somebody more beneficial to the team. not maybe, but he KNOWS they will. I'm talking a whole new identity on both sides of the ball, anything kind of close to way Rex brings seems redundant especially in the face of positive player feedback.
