my eyeballs. i know all the hype says this draft class is suppose to be great but i don't see it. we have reached a place where its accepted that qbs will be over drafted and are now grading accordingly.
Although I voted to move up to number one and draft Josh Rosen, since Baker Mayfield wasn't an option, my real choice is to move up to number one and draft whomever the Jets think is the best of the lot. My choice is only an opinion, but the guys who have to actually make the choice have their jobs on the line. I know, many will be saying "look at their two previous choices at QB", however, I don't look at it that way. I feel any QB choice made after round one goes with long odds of him making it, so I don't necessarily fault those who picked Petty and Hackenberg. They rolled the dice and came up short, but it didn't cause any great damage. If the Jets take a QB in round one, there will probably be hell to pay if they get it wrong and they know that, so I'm happy to let them pick the guy their careers are going to depend on.
Don't your eyeballs tell you that this years group is at least as good as last years? We had Trubitsky, Watson and Mahomes all go high in the first round last year, and all have had some success. Even Kizer, in round two, has shown some flashes playing for the Browns. In fact, his numbers are comparable to Goff's first year. I think there are at least 5 prospects I would rate equal or better.
While I agree that there's more QBs with high potential this year, with the exception of Rosen, I don't think any of the rest are better than Mahomes or Watson, and even Rosen with his concussions and talk about his "attitude" make him a gamble. That said, I agree they should move up as high as they can if possible and take the best QB available and then build the team around him. I'm hoping for Rosen or Mayfield, but I really don't think it'll happen. I grudgingly accept that that they should not just take a QB at 6 just for the sake of taking one. If they're stuck at 6 - and why oh why did they have to win 5 games? - then I hope Barkley is there, but don't expect him to be. Failing Barkley, then if there is a GREAT pass rusher or LT/C available, take him, and failing that, look to trade down. If we trade down, then the options re-set, beginning with QB first, then pass rusher/OL (preferably LT/C).
Read this: https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/draft-josh-allens-2017-season-defined And then explain why you still like Allen. Not being snarky, just really curious.
There is NOTHING to fear in moving up and drafting a QB from 6 I WOULD BE VERY WORRIED air Mac continued his stupidity with fools gold QBs like Cousins Look at the recent drafts for 1st round QBs :Goff Wentz Marriotta Winston Trubisky Mahomes Watson the list goes on.all of them are doing fine..and this years class is very good Grab an opportunity Mac and get the BEST
Don't think they'll move up either, but also think there will be a very good QB prospect available at 6 if they don't, and should take him regardless, otherwise, the Jets will just be recycling mediocrity.
From what I've seen/read so far, if Rosen and Mayfield are gone by 6, the rest may well be available lower, and justify taking Barkley if he's there, or a stud pass rusher or LT if they are truly great, and then looking to maybe trade back into the first to get their QB. It's a gamble of course, which is why it's not my preferred choice, but if Jackson, Rudolph, Allen, Falk, et. al. don't grade out to consensus top 5 level, then it might be the better route to go. It will also depend on who the Jets have as OC and whether they'll commit to tailoring their system to whomever they take.
I don't think there is much chance of us to sign Cousins. Realistically - why would he sign with a team like the Jets with a coach and GM on the hot seat and no stability at OC. All things being close he would not choose the Jets - therefore we would have to overpay the market for him - No Thanks. It is also easy to say "trade up", but you need to have a willing partner that I do not see in the five teams ahead of us. Most likely we stay put - if the QB that is available we like is there, then you take him. If not there will be a good player to take or someone that a team may want to trade up for. Trading down is probably more likely than it is for is trading up given the needs of the teams ahead of us. Where we may look to trade up is into the late first depending on how we grade out the OT's
I'm really hoping Josh Allen throws at the Combine and aces it. That's the best chance we have that the Browns will take him at #1. After that pick things open up for the Jets at 6. Assuming the Browns don't try to break the curse by all means necessary and take another QB not named Lamar Jackson on the #4.
Rosen darnold are the only ones I would rate equally or better. The rest will be drafted in the first because of the league now. But I’m ok with that, I ‘m ok with Allen at 6 or moving back into the 1st to grab Jackson. But there is no qb in this draft that would move the jets forward as quickly and with less of a gamble than signing cousins. I don’t even know if a qb in this draft will ever be as good as he is .
That's just one guy's opinion. For everyone one of those you can find an opposite one: http://www.wkyc.com/article/sports/...-browns-at-1-one-expert-says-yes/95-509536457 The whole draft will be rife with people's opinions pro and con. The reason I liked Watson last year was based on his production and what I saw. As you know, there were many nay-sayers about him, and Mahomes as well, who you liked. I haven't followed Allen at all this year, but I have recently been reviewing some of his game footage. What I see in Allen is a tremendous arsenal for the position. Is he perfect? No, but who is?
I agree, but the main difference between Allen and Mahomes/Watson is they were proven winners, and often won games for their team with their play, whereas Allen has actually cost Wyoming games. He may prove me wrong, but having been bitten once with Hack, I would steer away from anything that looks like him and that's Allen. Now if all the experts start praising him between now and draft day, maybe I would change my mind, but I don't think that will happen. The reports on him, even going back to the prior year when he was considered as almost can't miss, still had a lot of mixed feelings. Added to the Jets situation, with their poor track record at developing QBs, I think he might be the worst candidate to consider. Again, I'm open to having my mind changed, but as of now that's what I see.
Another thing to consider is the free agent skill position players...will they want to come to the Jets with a HUGE question mark at quarterback. The offensive coordinator the Jets hire is going to be a pivotal move when it comes to attracting a free agent quarterback, which then acts as a dominoe effect attracting skill position free agents. That is why I think trading for Alex Smith makes a lot of sense. Getting Alex Smith right away makes the Jets look a hell of a lot better to would be skill position free agents. Jets wouldn't have to overpay for Smith and talk him into coming here like they would Cousins . The skill position players I would love to make a run at are Jarvis Landry and Le'Veon Bell. We have ZERO chance of getting them, or anyone worth a damn if the Jets qb's are Petty, Hackenberg, and some JAG qb again.
I still like Josh Allen and I read that. Anybody that likes Josh Allen (in my opinion) has to acknowledge that there is a chance/risk he doesn't work out but if he does work out I think you've got a bonanza. Drew Bledsoe with some mobility at worst, better than that at best. I think he's going to work out. I think character and attitude is a big part of being an NFL QB. Josh Allen seems like a great young man and he grew up on a farm. He'll keep on shoveling till he gets it. I'd want him in the proverbial foxhole with me over Rosen any day of the week. The problem with Josh Allen though besides the risk factor is that he probably will not be available at the Jets pick. I think he's a slight risk to go first overall, a good risk to go 4th overall, and also depending on how things break a good risk that another team trades up into the #2 or #3 spot to nail him. And as much as I like him I personally don't feel that he's worth paying 500 other draft picks now and in the future to move up for. I'm personally not seeing where ANY of these guys are worth a Redskins for RGIII type future mortgaging package.
Signing McCown would have made sense if we had the same OC. Better to upgrade now since everyone is learning a new playbook.
Well you may be right, time will tell. I'm not rooting against him by any means, and if the Jets took him I would root for him to succeed (as I have for Petty and Hack with no success). But he's had accuracy problems, even when he was considered "good", and whys is that? How easy will it be for him to fix that, especially at the NFL level of competition? More likely they get worse. I hope the Browns DO take him and remove the problem for us. But if you (and more importantly Macc) think he's the FQB the Jets have been looking for, then whatever picks you use to get him will be worth it in the long run if he does work out. If he doesn't work out, they will have "lost" the draft picks they used to trade up, but the value of draft picks, given they're also subject to risk isn't prohibitive - to put it another way, there's no guarantee that any of the picks you surrender will pan out, and may even be busts.
If Mac cuts Petty and McCown retires, I think Mac should draft TWO QB's. Mac and the CS are kidding themselves if they think Hack is worth another season. We could compare Mac giving Hack another season as Gholston getting a 3rd season.
