Thank God the OP has the foresight not to make it a option, of the Jets are stupid enough to draft Mayfield than they are forever doomed for failure
I think Cousins is signing off his second visit. If he chooses to visit Vikings first they have one chance to get him. If he chooses Jets first he's just looking for the best offer to take to the Vikings.
This is really a great spot for Mac as long as he makes some decision. If he gets Cousins, great. If he drafts Darnold, Rosen, Allen or Mayfield: great. So I think most fans will be happy no matter what with a new potential franchise QB. I want Cousins, but I do think about what if's? What if Darnold/Mayfield/Allen/Rosen are great? Some will be. One or two could be better than Cousins. Then the Jets fans will say "Shoulda drafted _____ instead!" Can't live like that. Cousins and whoever they pick at #6 will likely be a better combo than just a QB at #6. Time will tell though. Getting close too. Free Agency March 14th, Draft April 26th.
exactly. as long as he does something to improve the QB position I think most will be happy. The only way i wouldn't be happy is if we resign a stopgap and stick with hack and petty and don't land a FA QB that can be the future or draft one high.
You're right, my mistake on Johnson. That might even be more problematic seeing as ACL's are so common these days. Cardinals may want to do right by him, but I don't think Cousins will show the slightest bit of interest in them. It's always been Jets vs. Denver, until Minnesota surprised everyone, and now it's Jets vs. Minnesota when it was just going to be the Jets.
It's unfortunate that opportunities come in bursts rather than steadily. If the Jets weren't where they are I'd say signing Cousins is a no brainer. That said the draft QB is there for the taking. If they get the right one, that is a better long term outcome than Cousins would be.
I think Cousins will pick the Jets for two reasons: 1. We will offer more money. 2. We aren't on the verge of a SB run, so if we don't get there for a year or two he has some "breathing room". With the Vikings (or Broncos) he would be expected to come right in and lead them to the SB and if he doesn't he's a failure.
He may not make a second visit. He'll let the most desperate team, with the most cap space (Jets) set the market. Before he leaves, his agent will call Minny & see if they're even in the same ballpark. Comparable contract, and he likely goes to Minny. If they're not close, he doesn't leave Florham Park.
If Cousins chose the Jets and #2 had anything to do with it, then it would be a bad choice on the part of the Jets. Considering what he will cost there should be urgency wherever he goes.
that's a negative with Minn for sure. good catch. If he signs there people expect them to push for a SB if it doens't happen people will turn on him pretty quick. with the Jets, many would be happy if he can get us to the playoffs in the next 2 years. the bar for sucess is much lower with the jets then the vikes
I don't agree with #2 as far as Kirk himself goes. You have to remember he is coming from a really dysfunctional franchise in the Redskins. I think the thought of going to a winner like the Vikings or even the Broncos would be really appealing and he would embrace the Super Bowl or Bust pressure. I think if he chooses the Jets it will be because of money, location, looking into the future instead of just 2018, and just the overall feel of the team wanting him so bad. Not because he has a loser's mentality.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-teams-are-really-interested-in-kirk-cousins/ Not a report or anything, but an interesting take.
I meant more that other poster implying Macc overpays for everything. I mean what supports that? Revis and Cro? Maybe. Certainly not Mo. And every other contract has been fine.
Cousins' agents are playin the Jets. He is using the Jets to get more money out of other teams. Fuckin Jets always end up in this situation, it's uncanny
Wouldn't be surprised if it's that other way around this time. They know the Jets are going to offer the most, might as well have the Jets end up paying a few extra million.
