absolutely true chowds were actually asserting that this "diamond that BB had come up with" pretty much made up for the loss of Ahern but then again, what would you expect
What are the assumptions here with our TE position now? Does Winslow play less? Does Cumberland play less? Sudfeld is not a good blocker, so I could see him taking away snaps from Winslow.
Wait....I thought $20M/yr franchize QBs were supposed to make the players around them so much better!:rofl::rofl:
Sudfeld is not a great blocker. That's why the Pats kept Mulligan over him. If he helps you guys its gonna be as a receiver
According to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston, Sudfeld's locker was intact on Friday. He said this is usually a sign the Pats were hoping he'd clear waivers so they could sign him to their practice squad. So the Pats hadn't given up on him apparently. He looked good catching the ball in the preseason. His issues seemed to be an aversion to physical contact. If the Jets can afford to keep him on the active roster while developing him, they may have something. Here is the post... FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Sharing a few thoughts on tight end Zach Sudfeld, who was waived by the Patriots on Thursday, being claimed by the Jets on Friday: During Friday's media access period in the locker room, Sudfeld's locker remained intact. That seemed to be an indication that the Patriots hoped to bring Sudfeld back on the practice squad if he cleared waivers. At the same time, the Patriots had to figure the chances of Sudfeld clearing were no sure thing. He had shown flashes in the preseason that would catch the attention of most teams who might have a need, or a luxury of time to develop him with a spot on the 53-man roster. The Patriots, in part due to needs at other positions on the 53-man roster (e.g. defensive tackle), no longer had that luxury. This highlights the balance that every team navigates between present needs and future potential. Sudfeld clearly has promise and his August emergence in the preseason was highlighted in this space. In truth, I think his early preseason performance surprised the Patriots to a degree, as they initially projected he would probably take a year to develop. The timeline, at that point, had been accelerated. But something happened in the transition from preseason to regular season, and suddenly, the game looked a bit too big for Sudfeld at times. He didn't record a regular-season reception, there was an interception on a pass intended for him in the season opener, and he was unable to field an onside kick in a Sept. 29 game against the Falcons. With the Patriots not using as many two-TE sets, instead favoring a three-WR package, we started to forecast Sudfeld's dimishing role last week. Furthermore, because he's more of a receiver than a pure tight end, his value on the 53-man roster was transitioning to more about future potential than present contributions (he played just eight snaps Sunday night against the Falcons). To sum it up, if the Patriots didn't have to address pressing issues related to winning games in the present, Sudfeld would probably still be on the roster in a "red-shirt" type role, likely as a game-day inactive. But at this time, it was a luxury the Patriots felt they couldn't afford. Time will tell if it's a decision they come to regret.
No Goodson hurt his hamstring today as well. It does not sound to be serious. No idea if it will keep him out Monday or not. Here is a link. What I meant in my previous post is once goodson is activated (as he has not been activated from his suspension to the roster yet) it is likely either Reuland or Sudfield will be cut.
He was selected in both my fantasy leagues by Pats fans that thought he was going to be the successor in NE lol. That MUST mean he's good Honestly though, Idzik is doing his due diligence. Both of the Jets tight ends haven't done much this year, Winslow has fizzled and Cumberland is proving to be a non-factor.
Nice write up , thanks man. I was actually thinking the same thing not even knowing anything about the player. He made Brady's 53 man roster, so he can't be horrible...raw yes, but not without potential. Like the article said, developing him became a luxury NE could no longer afford. Kinda like the whole Danny Woodhead fiasco for us.
During the draft his name was pitched around by several posters including myself. When I watched UNR the kid stood out, granted he isn't the strongest kid in the NFL so his blocking isn't that good. But the kid can catch damn near anything and everything, he is 6'7" also if my memory is correct. This is a damn good signing off the wavier wire. Give the kid time to hit the weights and grow with Geno and we can have something at tightend.
Really? You see big runs as the fix for getting the pass rush off Geno? I think our running game has been great. The only reason why Geno is getting a pass rush is because he's a rookie and he's dropping back a lot to pass. If we simply run more it will slow down the pass rush.
Yes we need to get a more consistent running game so the box isn't stacked every play and can free up play action etc.. Our rush has not been great but has shown flashes and if we can get a genuine 2 headed attack I think we see a different Geno. Our O line is better than we think. But Geno has to stop running out of the pocket and have some faith in his O line
