For about 13 games or so. Not so different from 2004 with this team when he came out of the gates fast, put up 10 TDs and then caught nothing for the last 5 weeks or so. Credit to him, he did get a bit closer to the end of the season this time out. Moss seems to me to be a one-trick pony. Cover him properly and he's a negligible threat. Coles, well, he has skills, but he has an attitude to go with it. I get the feeling he came back for an easy life and has been upset with the changes under the new coach. If we get a good deal I won't be too sad to see him go.
Not trying to hijack this thread but, it just seems to me that there are two things the Jets have not been very good at in recent times.. Drafting RB's and drafting WR's. For some reason, either they're just not available when we pick OR our scouts just don't see them OR when they get to New York, they b***h up. We haven't done very well in the trading department either. Just bad luck I guess. I say that to say trading Coles might be one less potential headache for Mangini, but I'd be truly surprised if the Jets come out of it with equal or higher value. Can't call it..
Thunderjet nothing personal but, if Branch is such a deep threat wouldn't he have at least 13 YPC? IMHO A deep threat is used on routes designed for longer gains. The eidence shows that Branch hasn't been used this way. Now does he have the speed to be used a deep threat (I mean actually cathing a lot of deep passes) in the future? Sure. However, so does Brad Smith and McCarien's has done it earlier in his career as well. I just think that Brach is not the clear upgrade that warrents all of the consideration heaped upon him. I say let the Jets go with who they have now with a (seemingly healthy) Pennington and see what type of production they can get. I don't want them to break the bank when it's not a given that Branch will make this WR corp noticably better.
I think the worry on the part of the FO is that if they choose to sit Chad at the midway mark Coles won't be on board with the decision. The new regime has gone out of it's way to get rid of vets with a rep for lip. Coles fits the category.
Wrong, they used branch on alot of screen passes and quick slants for run after the catch opportunities. That brings his Ypc. down.
That is my point. He might have the speed to go deep, but the Patriots haven't used that speed to date (although they may in the future). In my book most "deep threats" have near a 15 yard average and Branch has < 13 yards. PS> I'm not claiming that I watch a lot of the Pats games. I do have the Sunday ticket and watch them before / after the Jets if possible.
