Terrible move not getting rid of Rhodes but a 4th and 7th? give me a break. All those who like the move are just not looking at it objectively. The guy was a starter for most his career with 1 pro bowl season. That should have gotten us a third. Don't like it.
well Jets had no bargaining power at all you really can't expect much. draft picks are worth way more than they used to be. hell boldin was traded for a third and forth
So one "Pro Bowl Caliber" year, to use a term the board loves when they over value players, never a Pro Bowler, equals a 3rd Rounder... take off the green glasses my man and he's been terrible fopr over 2 years...
The Chargers got a 3 or 2 for Cromartie. Who's had more value....A guy who is several years removed from a Pro Bowl and has an injury history and had moved to 4th on the depth chart or a starter on the top pass defense in the league? Lito Sheppard vs. Kerry Rhodes We gave up essentially a 4 for Lito and got a 4 for Rhodes. Don't mind that he's gone but we should have gotten better.
I am a bit torn on this deal, on one hand KR is a POS and did nothing for this team other than make our defense look better by name recognition, on the other he is immensly talented guy who had a fantastic season pre REX era and people clammored to lock him up long term. I am a very realistic Jet fan which makes me on the fence about this move, I had always liked Rhodes, but his play last year, as well as on most passing downs (esp. the one where he got the sack and celebrated instead of find the fumble or being late on multiple coverages) and his inability to WANT to tackle would give me fits in the past. With that said, the compensation is a bit low, even if it is just a round or so. At the end of the day though, Rhodes was a not a fit for us anymore nor was he the player that he once was for us, so if Tanny and Rex believes that a suitable replacement is to be had whether it be through the draft or FA than I have to believe that this was the right move. Tanny rarely makes a move that doesn't make sense and Rhodes clearly needed a change of scenery. Is it the best deal? no. Will we better because of it? I have to think we will.
Its apples and Oranges as far as I'm concerned, I'm willing to bet that therre was more of a market for Cromartie than there was for Rhodes. Rhodes has been more of a detriment to his team than Cromartie, as seen by his actual benching. They play different positions, and corners who can cover are valued more than average free safeties, which is what Kerry Rhodes actually is...
That is terrible compensation. I wasn't even remotely happy with trading him away for a third, but I would have atleast understood it. How can you trade away a guy that has been a capable starter, (Can Be) probowl caliber player, and has a ton of potential for a 4th round pick? Did we not pick this guy up in the draft in the 4th round? How do we not atleast get a fucking 3rd out of this deal? What do we do at the safety position now? That is just stupid to do when you already have so much problems (due to age) along the defensive line. I just don't get this move at all, I hope this will make sense at some point.
there must of been more going on behind then scenes then we no about. there must of been some serious problems going on that we had to hurry up and trade him for almost nothing. maybe we was threatening to hold out unless he got traded then the price would really of went down? idk just a thought
You guys are nuts. Rhodes is a talented safety who hasn't put it together because he has other interests than football. Ryan gets the most out of most of his players, but he couldn't get it out of Rhodes. This guy is a bad attitude, doesn't like his profession, and is a downgrade from their last guy playing the position (Arizona). Expecting more is ludicrous. It would've been worse had we kept him, gotten nothing out of him on the field, and then lost him in FA for nothing.
Sorry but there was a reason people were so high on him when he first got here. Rhodes is a talented player and, at the very least, a solid starter. Yeah, he's a little soft, but he has the ability to make big plays.. if the balls in his path he'll find a way to come down with it. That can be and has been a huge asset. Plus the Jets are paying him his $6 mil bonus so the Cards don't have to. A 4th rounder is pretty weak compensation.
Rhodes is no longer an effective player and if the Jets could have gotten a better pick, someone would have offered it. I have no clue what you folks even think you're complaining about.
why does everyone think Kerry made a pro bowl.. i have seen that all over this thread.. he had a good season, pro bowl CALIBER.. but wasn't selected to the pro bowl..
Whether or not we fans are looking at it objectively is a moot point. Hopefully the coaching staff and GM WERE looking at it objectively and have a plan in place. For the most part I think they've done a hell of a job so far acquiring talent and making shrewd deals. This may just be the first piece of the deal.
