32 for a position predictated on speed is getting old.for pouha he relies on muscle and holding the point.he will be viable for another 3-4 years

Linemen, if they are sturdy, tend to play deep into their 30's, unlike the LBs and DBs. Recall Siragusa and Sam Adams. Also Ted Washington played well into the 30's. Pouha will play at least 3 more years - that's the bare minimum I see. Maybe 5 to 6 more years.

Pouha just has to stay large and avoid getting injuries. It's his job to clog up the middle and stop runs up the gut and he has been very good at that. He will lose a step or two in the coming few years but that isn't a big deal for a solid NT.

That being said I'm really looking forward to seeing what Ellis can do. Wilkerson has been a pleasant surprise and having two rookies good enough to start on a 3-4 D line is very promising for the future.

I think you maybe right and I hope something can be done to keep him. Sadly it says so much about the system, the guy has been a giant since Kris Jenkins went down a couple of years back, anchoring the line but time is against him I guess.

I wouldn't go that far, but it's possible.

32 is 32, that's true. As a result, you can't count on him for too much longer as the feature NT. However, given his mission in college and relative lack of wear and tear, and that the position he plays relies more on strength and smarts than speed and quickness, there's certainly reason to believe he'll last longer than most 32 year olds. The key is that when he collapses, we have a replacement there, so we're not stuck with a big hole at NT. That would crush this defense.

That's why Ellis was drafted. Ellis was drafted so Pouha could move to a backup role in 2013, and sooner if he develops more quickly. At that point, Pouha becomes a rotational lineman, which I can see him doing for 3-5 more years.

can he get to the QB, didnt follow him @ his time in Hampton, or is he like the other line-men not great pass rushers but great in defending against the run

Not entirely on point, but where does Pituitary play? Tackle or end? How's he coming along?

Exactly where is it written that Dixon has been inconsistent in De Vito's absence?

If Ellis is the backup for De Vito then that is saying that KE abilities are below MDV which is sought of shocking since in MHO MDV is just a run of the mill player at best. :jets:

When Pouha and DeVito are in we basically have 2 NTs... look at our depth chart on nyjets.com, we always have 1 DE, 1 NT and 1 DT playing.

Did you know Mike DeVito is 0-4 in bringing a championship to the NY Jets? Humor aside MDV is much better than you give him credit for...

Last weekend, we lost 24-14 - were you not watching? At first it looked like the Jets scored 4 TDs, but two were subsequently erased from the record books because the receivers were too open.

He's a rookie. And has been nicked up.
In all your years of watching football, you haven't picked up on this trend with rookies? They don't perform as well as they do in their prime.

If Plax doesn't make that one handed grab or Sanchez doesn't spot Holmes in the end zone, we definitely lost.

This seems like a big motivational ploy to me. Tell the world that Ellis is starting to light a fire under his fat ass, but rotate the DLine like you always do to keep everyone fresh.

It will be good to see Ellis being given his chance.

As for Pouha, it would be good to have him and Ellis in the future - that way we would always have a fresh player for the next play!

I think you missed the sarcasm in my post and the intended slight towards some around here who act like we lost. I think I was trying a little too hard with that one. I feel the same way you do. An ugly win is still a win.
