As usual, I am with Ellis on this one. Get it over with and move on. There are going to be a bunch of disgruntled faces in the locker room, and losing is not going to be something that alleviates the situation. It might have to be a bloodbath, but in the long run it will be worth it. -X-
Thats exactly why they will both get cut. If Mawae does come back with a renegotiated contract then expect Kendall to do the same. Fabini is gone regardless.
I think Mawae, Kendall, and Fabini will all be gone. I would like to keep Mawae and Kendall, but I don't think it will happen. Mawae has already stated he will not restructure, and I doubt he will budge. Kendall will be an unfortunate cap cut. Although I like his veteran experience and solid play, his cap number is just too high for this rebuilding team. Fabini is simply done and will either be a backup somewhere else or retire.
if it is, it is... but it will be filled with youth, and that is something thats bneen needed here for a long time. I can't wait to see the fossils hitting the road. Ellis
I'm with ya on this... usher out the old and bring in the new. Give me some young hungry players looking to make a name for themselves. Lets be honest we are going to be bad next year so why not rid yourself of the deadweight. We all saw it last year and others are slower to accept it but Martin is done. If he wants to make a million a year (which is probably more than he would get on the open market)then let him stay but at reduced PT. This is a new era in Jets football.....
Who would want to be our QB next year. We do not need to waste a high pick on a QB. However if croyle from alabama is avaiable in this third round...
Im going to keep mawae, like it or not, he hasnt shown signs hes done. True the line around him collasped but hey, he is still the best center in the league
Keeping track, then, it been confirmed that Ty Law and Pete Kendall are gone, and Martin will stay. The rest is just speculation
He is not the best center in league, and get's dominated by better NT's in the league... he's slippin, and I for one am not against dumping him if we are attempting to build a winner here. Ellis
So dumping 1 PLAYER who is still one of the best Centers in the league is on the way to building this a winner. Dump 1 player and we're on the right track? Yeah...
So...it's better not to dump any players, and not work towards building a winner at all? That's a fairly ridiculous statement...
Nope, I want to cut them all, and deal with the cap hell NOW. Mawae, Kendall, Fabini, Martin, Pennington, Blaylock, McCareins, the whole lot of them. Franchise and trade Abe, and see what I can get for anyone elseon the roster at this moment. Law obviously isn't coming back, and then we start to build a real team. It's something that needed to happen for a while here, and rather than try to put it off, AGAIN, bite the bullet now. This way we get the players wanted by our new regime... no holdovers, per say. This also allows you to have no excuses 4 years from now if we still suck. These would all be Mangina/Tannenbaum picks and players. So no one guy being jettisoned doesn't fix the whole thing... but it's a start in the right direction. Ellis
I never said players shouldn't be dumped, but 1 player isn't going to hold the franchise back. But wouldn't it be pretty wise to keep some Veteran such as Mawae since this line next year is going to be full of rookies, at least keep him one more year for guidance and whatnot.
I don't mind keeping him, but that's what coaches are for. Might as well let all 5 guys get experience with each other now, than have 4 guys rely on Mawae and then him be gone the next year anyway. I wouldn't mind a situation where Mawae starts maybe the first 5-7 games, and then his future replacement handles the duties after that.
