    JUNC, where are you?
I realize that by this point, a lot of people are pissed about there being a Kellen/Chad thread again. This thread is different IMO, because it is about a specific game that has a lot to do with how we debate our situation here.

The season was shot, but NE was talking trash like usual, except it was even more heated this time because they were exposed for the cheating scum they are. They were undefeated, we would have liked to have taken it form them at their place. KC got hurt, and Chad came in and a good amount of 4 yard passes and everyone was singing his praises. So let the Chad knob gobbling commence.

Kellen had no time to throw, and this pick wasn't his fault, like some of the others that have become the staple of the pro-Chad argument.

JetsNBoys, my response to you would be: of course Brad Smith is going to be looking at Kellen by that point in his route (how else would he catch it?), but he wasn't yet at the sideline, despite what you think. Clemens also did not eye him down the whole play he was looking middle then switched. I realize that it was a quick route, but Kellen needs time to see the field and make a decision. Should he have had it ready to throw a teenie tiny bit earlier? Probably. He was inexperienced, but there wasn't much else he could do on that play. It happened so quick that Eugene Wilson took as long to get into the endzone from 8 yards out to begin his douche dance as it did for KC to get sacked. Look at 1:51 from the same video. Brady had an EASY 4 seconds in the pocket, Kellen had <2 seconds from the snap to getting hit. And Brady always has those 4 seconds. (they had 4 rushing the passer like we did)

Anyway, I think the forthcoming stability will be awesome for Clemens.

It was a horrible decision, he has to know he's not going to have alot of time. he locked on 1 receiver and when he quickly realized he wssn't open he needs to throw that away. I hope that comes w/ experience but that play cost us big time in that game.

Did you watch the video junc? With your eyes open?

again, he was looking middle, then went left.

He "has to know" that the lineman is going to open him up for capital punishment before he even could step into the throw? You've got to be kidding me.

Well I don't blame them all on someone else. The kid is going to have more growing pains this year as well. I'm not a fan of just tossing the ball like that in any situation, and Clemens is not the QB I want doing that yet either.

Yeah they never show anything thats beneficial to us. On Inside the NFL on HBO in 2006- anytime we won, we weren't apart of the games they recapped all year. But if we lost, we were on that show. It's appalling.

I saw it live, I saw it on replay. he has to know that he's in his EZ and he won't have alot of time. The play was designed as a quick hitter to the outside, it was apparent from the start that the play wasn't open so he needed to get rid of it but instead he backpeddled and double pumped. he waited too long, he had more than enough time to make a qucik decision and get rid of the football instead of trying to force one in. It was a bad decision and hopefully something he has learned from.

Yeah, well watch the video. Your memory isn't THAT good. I remember you saying you'll look for the replay, and I would too because our opinions of it differed so much. You said he watched Smith the whole route, which he did not. Why do you keep making up stuff that happened? How did all of pump-faking and backpedalling happen in 2 seconds? You need to stop being so stubborn and realize that you are completely wrong in this instance. You're just flat out wrong. He should have been ready to throw in two seconds? I believe throwing a quick pass was what his intention was when there was a guy coming full head of steam at him.

I think the INT is a moot point because it should have been called back for roughing the passer...... oh wait I jst got the memo that only happens if your name is Tom Brady.

Here's the point you're missing in this analysis: virtually any throw he makes could be called intentional grounding, and officials watch for intentional grounding VERY closely when the QB is deep in the endzone with pressure on him.

I don't think he made a good decision with the ball, but he had very little time to make that decision and the most important thing in his thought process was probably not taking the safety, which would have been devastating against the Pats on the first drive. The INT was boneheaded but it was an understandable error given the circumstances.

Sorry, cant believe there is any debate over this play at all. Play was horrible, Complete breakdown by entire offense no one or two guys to blame. Bad throw and decision from QB. No protection from offensive line and receiver prolly could have made a better effort to keep New England from getting it. Of all those I would say receiver was least to blame . But no defending Offensive line and Qb. Both are supposed to be professionals and should know what to do in this situation. Its not like this was the first football game for alll of them . They run that play in Pop Warner, High school and college. All about execution.

I have watched and 2 seconds is plen ty of time to make that decision. What do you expect 10 seconds?

I'm not saying he should throw it into the ground, he should have thrown it out of bounds. That play is a quick hitter, either it's open right away or you have to throw it away. he waited too long. I understand it, last year was his first extended action as a QB. There's 5 million things going on his his head, like I said I just hope he learns from it. I'd rather have that mistake happen during a 4-12 year than in agame we need to make the playoffs.

I'm sure if Pennington had done the same thing, these same posters would be equally as understanding and willing to spread the blame around. :breakdance:

Yeah, to make the decision. Not to throw the ball.

Going into that play he knows it's a quick hitter or throw it away. If that receiver isn't opne immediately then you throw it away. It was a bad decision that cost us big time. Hopefully he has learned form that experience as well as the experience w/ alot of his poor decision making a year ago.

 Yeah if that was Chad these guys would ahve counted 6 seconds to throw. I'm surprise fthey don't blame Chad for not helping Clemens in that situation.

after studying the film - this shouldn't have happened:

    1) That protection should not have broken down that fast, Clemens' back foot could not get set to make the throw.

    2) Clemens should not have stared down the receiver.

Clemens was startled by the pressure once Seymour broke through the line. It disrupted the rhythm of the play and caused Clemens to flinch once RS got past Clarke. Clemens did say post-game that he wanted to throw the ball out of bounds. When he tried to do so, Seymour's hit caused the ball to land in Hobbs' hands.

Ugh, he looked in the middle of the field, then looked Smith's way. Again, if you're being hit in the act of throwing, only 2 seconds after your fingers are up Mangold's tail, how can staring down the receiver be the culprit in this pick?

    Reeeal witty there junc.

Instead of being sure, go look for some clips of some of his game ending picks and we'll discuss those, and whether or not it was due to the people around him, or if his remarkable intelligence has gone by the wayside...

Yep, the exact same play that Hobson got called for later in the game.

You mean like the lateral he threw against the Pats under pressure in the AFC wild card game in 06?

He can't throw the ball to the sidelines without a receiver in the area and he can't just chuck it deep to the sideline for the same reason. You stand in his shoes on that play and tell me where exactly that ball should have gone on a throwaway. I've looked at the play over and over again, and he was in the tackle box (no way to get out of it with the time given) and he had very few options to actually throw it away.

He should have found a way to get rid of it but I don't know where it should have gone.
