I like Kellen Clemens, I think he's a good person but a mediocre to sub-par QB. To say he didn't get a fair shot with the Jets isn't true. Yes, there were times he would be thrown into the fire, but you need to be able to handle those situations to be a successful NFL player. Every year with the Jets (excluding the Favre year) he got a chance to compete in preseason for the starting job. He lost the competition against noodle-arm Pennington and rookie Sanchez each year. He did an ok job, especially like that game against Tampa Bay he started (and won) when Sanchez was injured. He was a decent backup, but to say he didn't get a fair chance isn't true. He got several chances, but he just isn't very good.
It's pretty apparent that no team thinks he is even a stopgap starting NFL QB. At this point the idea that the Jets didn't give him a fair chance is pretty ridiculous, unless you think every team in the NFL didn't give him a fair chance either.
I agree, except he did get a chance in the Favre year, he was getting beaten out again by Pennington and that's when management made the move for Favre in August. Remember they had a few weeks of camp already and were at the first pre-season game in Cleveland when the deal went down. Going into that camp Pennington was coming off yet another injury and Clemens played the last half of 2007, they were hoping Clemens could be the guy.
